I can join the fanclub ;D  This is absolutely amazing. A very able projection, i might say something of some of the sopranos, that lash out at places, be it mildly, for example in " Baisies moy dont fort", but in general I can live with that. Excellent recording and performance.

One of those artists from India, in this case from South India, who immediately overwhelms you at the first encounter is L Subramaniam. Not the usual Sarangi is played here, but a Western violin that is held in a different way with the neck. down. A beautiful soothing sound and astonishing ingenuity. Subramaniam has a son who has followed in his father's footsteps and also perform together on occasion.
How wonderful to communicate with your father in this way.
This Nimbus recording is an absolute must for all those who care about this music.
Many CDs from the past are not for sale or are very expensive, one of the reasons is that the CD market has collapsed.

Yesterday, I watched Plan 9 from Outer Space (1957).  Frequently cited as the worst film ever made, I was curious about it and it was on tv so why not.  It was pretty bad but had some charm which is all I could have hoped for.  Some of the reasons why it felt bad is just horrible production values, too campy, poor acting (the co-pilot literally is reading the script on his lap), poor...well everything is poor.  Seems like everything was a single take without rehearsal.  Don't quite understand why there is a vampire or vampira.  One thing I did like is the sun gun idea.  I thought that was quite interesting in the peak of the atom and hydrogen bomb hysteria to allude to the next generation weapon would be a photon bomb but since photons travel through space everywhere, it would destroy the universe.

The beam of a Gamma Ray Burst might possibly vaporise a planet at a range of 200 light years. :o

Nope. The end of today will mark five weeks since DHL tracking says it entered U.S. Customs. A week ago I emailed jpc and they said they would inquire with the shipper, but I haven't heard from them since. Time to email them again, I guess.

Hard to say what is going on. Maybe jpc didn't include a valid customs declaration and it is going to be sent back.

Quote from: LKB on May 02, 2024, 08:04:26 PMAs for those of you who have a favorite Kubrick film, I suppose you'll jump in without any encouragement
Pressed to choose one favorite (which the thread does not) I think it would have to be Dr Strangelove.

You might find some good 1970s concerts from the In Search Of Hades box set on archive.org 8).

Quote from: steve ridgway on Today at 05:15:46 AMWhat he said, although we're now in 2024 - where did the future go? :'(

It ran into reality.  Fret not, there are still some people who hold fast to the silly notion that humans will colonize the solar system - or even the galaxy! - and mediocre future entertainments will explore such topics anew.  Maybe one or two will match Kubrick qualitatively.  Doubtful, but maybe.

My favorite listen recently is magnificent, charming Haydn.  Just perfection.  Not overly driven (that is how you crush Haydn), nor ponderous, nor dull.  Just effortlessly musical.
