Debussy: La damoiselle élue

Already at 24 years old, Debussy's harmonies appear to be carried along in a permanent state of ecstatic suspension, supposedly Wagner-inspired yet so different. A very lovely thing.

I like the mockup.  You might want to put in slight rubato in the tempo to make it feel more like a performance, but the sound quality is nice.

2001 is not only my favorite Kubrick film, it's the greatest sci-fi film ever made.

Quote from: Karl Henning on May 03, 2024, 09:45:29 AMI hadn't made the Return to Oz connection! And of course, "The Lonely" has an exquisite Herrmann score!

Nor I.  She was really good in Willow and I can see that she can disappear in her roles becoming the character.  Who knew she makes a great villain too.

Yes, Herrmann was great at everything but even so, the Lonely was an especially effective score.  I can hear quite a bit of Prokofiev in James Horner's score to Willow.  Basically, Alexander Nevsky.

Johann Nepomuk Hummel
Mass in B-flat Major, op. 77
Alma Virgo, op. 89a
Mass in D Major, op. 111

Susan Gritton, soprano
Collegium Musicum 90 - Richard Hickox

After going through Haydn's masses, I couldn't ignore his Esterházy successor Hummel.

Hummel is at his creative, forward-looking best during the Credo and Sanctus in both works. The Alma Virgo is a bit of high-flying soprano fun.

No booklet on Qobuz, but the sound is streaming.

Booklet is here: https://www.blueheron.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/645312499656_Booklet.pdf

I've been listening to this non-stop, just some of the best songs ever written IMO.

If I do, it likely will not be until the fall at the earliest.  I've started in on another LvB listening project that could take a while, assuming I complete it.
