A few that spring to mind:

- A continuing enjoyment of the Bach Cantatas with the Harnoncourt/Leonhardt cycle :

- Kempe unlocked Strauss for me :

- I particularly loved those recordings in my first foray into Opera this year:

* Parsifal/Karajan

* Gluck - Orfeo Ed Eurydice (Jacobs)

* Tosca - Callas

Olivier

Lisztianwagner

"Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire." - Gustav Mahler

71 dB

Definitely J.S.Bach Complete Cantatas boxset by Helmut Rilling amd the realisation that I prefer HIP style with Bach's early cantatas, but modern non-HIP style on later cantatas.
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

The most exquisitely beautiful version of this opera I've heard, and still my favorite version.  It is hard to top perfection.
The universe is change; life is opinion. - Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

People would rather believe than know - E.O. Wilson

Propaganda death ensemble - Tom Araya

I did not acquire anywhere near as much music this year as last year; in particular I did not acquire very much contemporary music. These seem to be the favourites, although there are a few albums obtained recently that I haven't listened to yet.

Johann Sebastian Bach - The Well-tempered Clavier II - Luca Guglielmi [CAvi-music]
Christophe Bertrand - Vertigo - Zafraan Ensemble, et al. [Bastille Musique]
Johannes Brahms - Sonatas for viola and piano - Roberto Díaz, Jeremy Denk [Naxos]
Mirela Ivičević - Scarlet Songs - Klangforum Wien, et al. [Kairos]
György Kurtág - Kafka-Fragmente - Anna Prohaska, Isabelle Faust [Harmonia Mundi]
Olivier Messiaen - Vingt regards sur l'Enfant-Jésus - Bertrand Chamayou [Erato]
Franz Schubert - Winterreise - Ernst Haefliger, Jörg Ewald Dähler [Claves]
Franz Schubert - Piano Sonata D.960 / Moments musicaux D.780 - Jörg Ewald Dähler [Claves]
Franz Schubert - Complete String Quartets - Quatuor Modigliani [Mirare]
Robert Schumann - Novelletten, Gesänge der Fruhe - Martin Helmchen [Alpha]

Mapman

Here are some of my favorite works that I discovered and excellent performances that I purchased this year.

Stanford: Symphony #6

Casella: Symphony #3

Harty: With the Wild Geese

Poulenc Concerto for 2 Pianos!

Excellent performances of Vaughan Williams and Grainger works for band.

Dohnányi: Symphony #1. Not the greatest symphony, but very interesting. I'm looking forward to exploring more of his music.

My introduction to Langgaard, another composer I'm looking forward to exploring more of.

Florence Price Symphonies

Szell's performance of Haydn 93 is great!

This performance made me appreciate Haydn's 31st ('Hornsignal'). It's a piece that can show off a great orchestra.

Gielen's Mahler. What I've heard from this box is mostly excellent.

I enjoyed Grieg's orchestral songs.

Blomstedt Nielsen 5. I finally got a copy, and it is fantastic as everyone says.

My introduction to Rubbra. Another composer I'm enjoying exploring.

I purchased few recordings this year, at least when compared to prior years.  Since I can and do stream almost everything before buying, I had a 100% hit rate among purchases, a first.  I suspect this is the new normal.

The easy top choice:

Other notable purchases:

The universe is change; life is opinion. - Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

People would rather believe than know - E.O. Wilson

Propaganda death ensemble - Tom Araya

Mandryka

The new recordings which have become favourites for me are all early music

Matteo Ciccitti - Ortiz and Hume and others
Mikka Ikähaimo - Per Brahe
Federico Rossignoli - Gégoire Braysing
Tianqi Du - Goldberg Variations
Gustav Leonhardt - English Organ Music (previously unreleased.)
Leon Berben - John Bull
Andrea Bacchetti - WTC 2
Duo Enssle Lamprecht - Songs of an Anonymous Lover

There is a recording of new music which I find really intriguing, I can't explain why, and I don't think it's quite true to say it's a favourite. It's Peter Ablinger's Against Nature on Kairos. I feel the same way about Mitsuko Uchida's Diabelli Variations and Sokolov's Haydn sonatas.
