Title: Alexandre Luigini (1850-1906)
Post by: Brahmsian on December 27, 2013, 07:32:26 AM
Alexandre Luigini, a French composer and conductor.  Almost solely known for the terrific ballet, Ballet Egyptien.  He is better known as an opera conductor, and conducted several opera premieres and revivals.

As the last name suggests, he does have an Italian background and heritage.  His grandparents moved from Italy to France.

I was floored the first time I heard Ballet Egyptien, in September 2012.  Just listened to it again this morning.  A fine work, IMO.

Has anyone else heard this ballet, or any other Luigini works?
