Title: H. Owen Reed (1910- )
Post by: snyprrr on December 28, 2011, 08:48:29 PM
I thought I better get this one in before... well, he IS the second oldest Composer on the planet! :o Here's the skinny:

I ran across what must be his OneHitWonder, La Fiesta Mexicana, on a Marine Band cd, and thought it was one of the best renditions of Mexico yet, not at all obvious. I enjoy it much better than the Copland, or other, lesser works in the same vein. It's a Band staple; here's the opener:

There's probably no interest beyonf this piece, but, in this day and age, a man's OneHitWonder should count for something, so, it's not for nothing that H. Owen Reed joins the GMG Family of Composers on this 29th of December, 2011.

I;ve always enjoyed playing, hearing, and conducting that selection.  Mvt. 2 (Mass) is a pleasure to hear.
