Title: 'Perry Mason' Theme: Park Ave. Beat
Post by: snyprrr on June 09, 2013, 09:44:25 AM
C minor

C minor/A bass

D+

G7+

That's the progression, four chords over and over; but I'm having trouble figuring out the actual 'mode' as I'm trying to do some exotic 'orientalism'(?) soloing on top of the progression.

I know there's one 'C minor' that has a leading 'Bb', and another 'C minor' that has 'B' as the leading tone. But this progression has BOTH. Do I switch 'modes' between the second chord and the third chord,... or,... can you tell me what's going on here? (I'm not talking about the 'misterioso' section in the middle: that's self explanatory).

HELPPP!!!! :'( :'( :'( Thanks!!

I didn't try improvising over it, but have you tried
this scale:
C D Eb F# G A Bb

for the first three chords, and then switching Bb to B on the very last chord?

A variation on Greg's idea...

Ah! Between chords 3-4, not 2-3?!?! Yes, I'll try.

Is this the 'Harmonic Minor' with frills?

I'm not really fluent with jazz theory/terminology. I might call the first scale G harmonic minor or (more analytically) C dorian with sharp 4. And I might call the second scale in my example C natural minor or C aeolian.
