Title: Ernest Bucalossi (1859-1933)
Post by: ChamberNut on May 28, 2009, 02:00:48 PM
Last week, my family and I took advantage of a beautiful day and went to explore some of Winnipeg's historical sites (an annual event for which all of the city's historical sites are free of charge to visit).

In this one heritage park museum, there was an old house with a rich settling family from Quebec, and as we looking around and listening to our interpretive guide speak, I noticed an old "pump organ".  On this pump organ, was a score for a Valse.  I looked up the name and appears E. Bucalossi.  I was instantly curious, as I had never heard of this composer before.  Of course, the interpretive guide gave me a strange look when I asked if she knew anything about the score on the pump organ.  :D

Just doing a bit of googling, and not coming across with much info, but I figured out the full name of Ernest Bucalossi, born in 1859, who died in 1933 (Italian by birth, if at all judging by the name).  Apparently composed a popular piece (in it's time) called The Grasshopper's Dance

Does anybody have any knowledge, works, info on this composer?  If not much is known about this composer, should I perhaps contact the local musicologist at the Music Conservatory?

Anyways, I thought it was pretty neat to come across this on our wonderful sunny day of sightseeing in our hometown, and wanted to share this with you.  0:)
