Quote from: Mandryka on March 16, 2024, 01:11:57 AMYou mean Boehm? It's a bit like he's demonstrating the music, presenting it objectively. He makes it feel like pure music. Can't remember the Lubeck.

I just thought that you had his Bruhns too. I've been wondering if I should get it. His Lubeck is on Youtube and I will check it soon.

Has anyone heard the "Amaryllis Quartet"? They have a "colour" series with several discs combining Haydn/Webern, Mozart/Schönberg, Beethoven/Berg, Schumann/Kurtag. Looks a bit gimmicky but also interesting...

I wrote to Falkenberg two weeks ago but haven't got an answer. Are they still in the business?

Some discussion here

I was listening to some WTC2 a couple of weeks ago and briefly went back to his. It's not my sort of thing. I've been reading his book on the Bach passions - I'm not sure what to make of Butt actually, either as performer or conductor or historian/philosopher.

Yes, I listened to the Mozart and op 131 - they're really good. If they come here again I'd go and see them.

I found a copy of this for about $80. I have never listened to Celibidache...
Frankly, I have been binge-buying recently, after having found a good online "Ebay Like" source here in Japan (where I live). I need to stop buying box sets, but at prices like these...
It's all good...

I think you need to post this on the cdcdcdcdcd thread.  Certainly buying a 49 cd box set of a conductor you've never heard before counts!  Are you a doomsday prepper getting your bunker ready?

Thoughts on Kuijken in Monteverdi's 1610 Vespers? It came across as a bit thin, but I'm open to giving it another try.

Jo498

I haven't heard Kuijken, but I can hardly imagine him being competitive with e.g. Jacobs or Alessandrini but maybe this is a prejudice about Flemish temperament (the 1980s? Herreweghe Vespers is quite nice, though).

Thanks, I'll try the depicted because I don't have the Kurtag, I think, and less Schumann than Beethoven.

And he purchased the complete Klemperer box and the Warner Leonhardt edition also, so the CDCDCDCDCDCD.... association is quite apt. I think these were sensible purchases, and who should throw the first stone?

I'm jealous of the Leonhardt set.

I recently listened to 2 podcast episodes about how addictive behaviours come about. And thought of you all...

I thought of myself too, but for different reasons.

I own all of the content beforehand (collected in the course of the years as soon as the individual CDs were released). This was all in all a much more expensive investement than the box, which I'm all the same not going to purchase despite much of it probably has become remastered.

Well, I'm not more addicted to music than my wallet allows.

Me and my sister are poster children for addictive behaviors!

To be honest, for some forum members I have suspicions the addiction is to the shopping rather than to the music.

For me the purpose of purchasing CDs is to listen to them. And as I have written before I purchase the CDs when they are available and listen to them when I get the time. This behavior is necessitated by the fact that many CDs only are available for a short time.
