Everything I post will be immediately deleted, I wonder if it is still useful to be here on the forum.

Quote from: absolutelybaching on April 13, 2023, 11:28:34 AMComposer : Gustav Mahler
Recording : Symphony No. 01 (Solti - 1983)
Performers : Georg Solti, Chicago Symphony Orchestra

I love this symphony. I remember 40 years ago thinking 'weird, odd'. I now just delight in it. I suspect Solti is not the best interpreter: but I don't care. He's wonderfully ebullient in it, so job done :)
I think the recording of Symphony No. 1 is one of the best performances of Solti's Mahler box set; it has quite fast rhythms, particularly in the second movement, but it's absolutely mesmerizing anyway.

Damn it, Traverso, you deleted your account over this?  :-\  I hope you come back! I always love seeing your contributions.

Same here. Traverso, please come back. I don't see many people listening to Bach and Iranian music.

Blame Karl's Mitropoulos writeup for inspiring this.

(Will next have to look up the actual Mitropoulos versions.)

You're reminding me that among my remaining "to listen to" list for the Mitropoulos  box, the Mahler First is near the top.

Incredibly nice as a matter of fact, it's an extremely impressive performance in my opinion, very intense, striking and powerfully passionate. Leipziger Streichquartett is excellent in Schönberg's strings compositions.

Just finished this whole CD:

Arvo Pärt: Fratres, Tabula Rasa, Symphony No.3. Neeme Järvi, Gothenberg Symphony Orchestra, w/ soloists Gil Shaham and Adele Anthony

Now:

William Grant Still: In Memoriam. John Jeter, Fort Smith Symphony

First listen; so far, so good. Kind of shades of Delius in places.

Disc four, gobsmackingly great readings of K331 and K332.  K331 is perhaps my favorite Mozart composition for keyboard, and it's for the opening theme and variations, which YES delivers fantastically well, complete with tasteful embellishments and distinctive variations.  Her take on the Rondo Alla Turca is unlike any other version I can recall hearing.  Slower than normal, and with less syncopated rhythm, she nonetheless adds in numerous hypervirtuosic touches just to show she can.  It's like Volodos meets Perlmuter, in bright sound.  Astonishing.  K332 compels nearly as much.

No-one wanted 'everything you post' to be deleted. Least of all me.
How you go from 'unfortunate one-off post' to 'everything I post will be deleted', I cannot fathom.
I profoundly regret your decision to delete your account. That was not what was being asked for, certainly not by me. If there's a possibility of reversing your decision, I for one would welcome you doing it.

Ludwig van Beethoven: Missa Solemnis in D major, op.123. Eugene Ormandy, Philadelphia Orchestra, Singing City Choirs

Just because I needed a reminder of how glorious the Missa was, I decided to put this on. This is not exactly a famous recording, I think, but it's an utterly brilliant one with beautiful singing.

Symphony No. 4 'Symphonie Concertante'

Antoni Wit & Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra

Marvelous work, Szymanowski intertwined such a splendid phrasing for the solo piano and the other instruments.

This reminds me I would need to revisit Beethoven's Missa Solemnis too!
