Title: That Darn Cat Thread
Post by: snyprrr on September 20, 2016, 07:52:32 PM
kitty pee, kitty pee
you really suck
why'd you haaave to bring a cat in the house
mutherfuck

the first thing it did
when you went to work
was lay the most flippin radioactive ingot of horror, I still have it in my nostrils weeks later
and made me berserk

i didn't even notice
until weeks had passed
at the top of the chairs
at my door she had gassed
a venomous spray
that is now encrusted
in my favoured carpet
oh how you are busted!

a month has passed
and kitty knows better
but my life has changed
because of this critter
it's sloppy with litter
and needy as fuck
when he goes to work
with kitty i'm stuck

Urinella, Urina, you fuckin Purina
eating feline
if I open the door will your
feet make a beeline?

dogs smell like dogs
and cat pee is awful
what else to do
but get some falafel?

"oh kitty"

Some good results were had with a paste of baking soda left to dry and then vacuumed.
Male spray is far worse than kitty drippings though...

I hate cats. Roomie shoulda gotten a dog, not that they are perfect by any means,  but at least they try to compensate for their bothersome ways, while cats just give you the middle claw. Nice pome, BTW, brought a tear to my eye. :D

Jubilate Agno, Fragment B

For I will consider my Cat Jeoffry.
For he is the servant of the Living God, duly and daily serving him.
For at the first glance of the glory of God in the East he worships in his way.
For is this done by wreathing his body seven times round with elegant quickness.
For then he leaps up to catch the musk, which is the blessing of God upon his prayer.
For he rolls upon prank to work it in.
For having done duty and received blessing he begins to consider himself.
For this he performs in ten degrees.
For first he looks upon his forepaws to see if they are clean.
For secondly he kicks up behind to clear away there.
For thirdly he works it upon stretch with the forepaws extended.
For fourthly he sharpens his paws by wood.
For fifthly he washes himself.
For sixthly he rolls upon wash.
For seventhly he fleas himself, that he may not be interrupted upon the beat.
For eighthly he rubs himself against a post.
For ninthly he looks up for his instructions.
For tenthly he goes in quest of food.
For having considered God and himself he will consider his neighbor.
For if he meets another cat he will kiss her in kindness.
For when he takes his prey he plays with it to give it a chance.
For one mouse in seven escapes by his dallying.
For when his day's work is done his business more properly begins.
For he keeps the Lord's watch in the night against the adversary.
For he counteracts the powers of darkness by his electrical skin and glaring eyes.
For he counteracts the Devil, who is death, by brisking about the life.
For in his morning orisons he loves the sun and the sun loves him.
For he is of the tribe of Tiger.
For the Cherub Cat is a term of the Angel Tiger.
For he has the subtlety and hissing of a serpent, which in goodness he suppresses.
For he will not do destruction if he is well-fed, neither will he spit without provocation.
For he purrs in thankfulness when God tells him he's a good Cat.
For he is an instrument for the children to learn benevolence upon.
For every house is incomplete without him, and a blessing is lacking in the spirit.
For the Lord commanded Moses concerning the cats at the departure of the Children of Israel
            from Egypt.
For every family had one cat at least in the bag.
For the English Cats are the best in Europe.
For he is the cleanest in the use of his forepaws of any quadruped.
For the dexterity of his defense is an instance of the love of God to him exceedingly.
For he is the quickest to his mark of any creature.
For he is tenacious of his point.
For he is a mixture of gravity and waggery.
For he knows that God is his Saviour.
For there is nothing sweeter than his peace when at rest.
For there is nothing brisker than his life when in motion.
For he is of the Lord's poor, and so indeed is he called by benevolence perpetually--Poor Jeoffry!
poor Jeoffry! the rat has bit thy throat.
For I bless the name of the Lord Jesus that Jeoffry is better.
For the divine spirit comes about his body to sustain it in complete cat.
For his tongue is exceeding pure so that it has in purity what it wants in music.
For he is docile and can learn certain things.
For he can sit up with gravity, which is patience upon approbation.
For he can fetch and carry, which is patience in employment.
For he can jump over a stick, which is patience upon proof positive.
For he can spraggle upon waggle at the word of command.
For he can jump from an eminence into his master's bosom.
For he can catch the cork and toss it again.
For he is hated by the hypocrite and miser.
For the former is afraid of detection.
For the latter refuses the charge.
For he camels his back to bear the first notion of business.
For he is good to think on, if a man would express himself neatly.
For he made a great figure in Egypt for his signal services.
For he killed the Icneumon rat, very pernicious by land.
For his ears are so acute that they sting again.
For from this proceeds the passing quickness of his attention.
For by stroking of him I have found out electricity.
For I perceived God's light about him both wax and fire.
For the electrical fire is the spiritual substance which God sends from heaven to sustain the
bodies both of man and beast.
For God has blessed him in the variety of his movements.
For, though he cannot fly, he is an excellent clamberer.
For his motions upon the face of the earth are more than any other quadruped.
For he can tread to all the measures upon the music.
For he can swim for life.
For he can creep.

oh, and btw- that British Poem? NOT THIS CAT!! Kitty's litter box manner could stand some English Boarding School Rules, frankly.

No, you see, THAT'S the neighbor's cat. He's cool, an outdoor cat; he hangs around outside the sun room all day hoping to catch a glimpse of Uri. He's a boss, lol, but she's just a big ole Pepe LePew scaredy cat. Scared and skittish cats piss me off.

So, roomie didn't like that neiborcat thought this was his territory, so roomie proceeds to litter the back yard with our kitty's wonderful little nut-covered-baby-ruths... I mean seriously so you can't walk on the flippin lawn anymore

ALL THE WAY UP TO THE SCREEN DOOR!!!!!

TWO DAYS LATER: I look, and the lawn is MOVING. I squint. The lawn has become a sheet of flies. AAAAHHHHHH.....

I wonder why the house smells like shit... oh, it's because the shit on the lawn is wafting through the kitchen window.

OH- DID I TELL YOU HE PUT THE LITTER BOX IN THE KITCHEN?????????????

THE KITCHEN, RIGHT NEXT TO ALL THE TUPPERWARE WHICH WAS ON THE FLOOR.

"Oh, it's ok"

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
aaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Roomie seems to have "cat lady gene", losing all rational thinking over "noble animals".... people hater.....

Oh how I can't stand people who love animals at the expense of humanity. IT'S NOT ANIMALS YOU HAVE TO DEAL WITH!!!!!

Thank you all, I need to get this rant out!!!

Anyhow... ok, I'm calm now...(breeeathe, breeeathe)... ok, ...check... going downstairs now...

No, cat lady gene entails considering cat hair and excretive products as a sort of jolly condiment. Seriously dude, unless you simply aren't in a position to reconsider, I would recommend reconsidering.

And you know, there are 2 things going on there: 1, the cat knows you hate her, and so she hates you back. and 2, she has separation anxiety which is why she shits (or pukes or pisses) on you whenever he leaves the house. She doesn't hate him, just you. Can you get away with 'accidentally' letting her out?  Just a thought...  >:D

You're right, the Cow Cat is a commerce raider, you find it with some kind of baby animal from time to time. I don't know how many little bunnies it's sent to the bottom. It likes to trap other cats under my car, they can't handle it.

The Cow Cat is a genetic anomaly, it has zero fear of humans or so far as I can tell, anything. If someone calls out to it it squeaks out a little meow comes over and flops down on the sidewalk to be stroked.

Lullaby for my cat, Ktee-Psee*

(sung to the tune of "Yellow Submarine")
Kitty Pussy, Pussy Kitty,
Kitty Pussy, Ktee-Psee
Kitty Pussy, Pussy Kitty,
Kitty Pussy, Ktee-Psee
We all live in a Kittee Pussie, Kittee Pussie, Kittee Pussie,
We all live in a Kittee Pussie, Kittee Pussie, Kittee Pussie.

*Ktee-Psee was found May, 2015, a month old kitten screaming in the parking area brought by the landlord knowing I would probably take her in. In less than a year (we thought she was too young to be spayed), she got in the family way and brought us 5 more mouths to feed over and above the feral cats that altogether are about 15.

I think you have to deal with it unless you want the Board of Health at your door and not just the flies. Tell your roomie to flush the cr*p at least down the toilet (not the together with the litter, he'll have to separate it.)

Above is just a reminder about spray which can really be terrible.  Alpha males don't stick around though. They might crash at your pad for a while but something urges them to move on. We had this time and again. Sometimes the male cats would visit every other month or so, just to check out the vittles...

The master of the Cow Cat is worried because it disappears for long stretches. He asked if we were feeding it. We are not, but I think it may have a second home, or using a flower grid chart to rendezvous with a supplier.

UPDATE:

roomie is catering to kitty at a level which makes our relationship strained. We're at about three days of no talking, lol!! yea, it's so bitchy, lol, wtf... this western notion of pets really is bs in a way...

I think I could put a cat to sleep... I dunno...

I guess if it were up to me I'd have somewhere for it to go,... but kitty is above the other paying member of the conglomerate  (moi)... it's warm out and the screen is open and oh joy flies and squirrels come in at will because... why?...

why can't you just let the cat out when you're there supervising, and then just close the flippin screen when YOU'RE done, because, hey, you know, your cat isn't thaaat bold, and won't go out even if you leave the screen flippin open all the flip flap day...

BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

You'd rather life in filth and call it "not as bad as all the bacteria in a sponge"

WTF?? kind of logic??

Yea, ultimately I guess you just want me outta here...seems the money's no thing...

ALL I FLIPPIN WANT is to be separated from nature- that's what I pay rent for, to be closed off from flies and squirrels and poop and stuff... why do you WANT to live like that??

Oh yea, you're a "gnostic"- which means what? poop is no longer poop? "hey it's all an illusion"

yea, ok

the cat shit still stinks and it's really hand to overcome the illusion that wave upon wave of radioactive heavy earth wafting like a comforter of noxious noisomeness...

yea, it's just an illusion

oy vey

nests of black widows... where are they???.... I DON'T KNOW!!.....YAAAAAAAHHH!!!!!!!!!

??? ??? ???
??? ??? ???
??? ??? ???

CALM DOWN KIMOSABE

calm down kimosabe

ok

So, this cat is such a BarneyFife, such a Gilligan, such a scaredy-cat... always fleeing, always getting freaked out by every sound... flea-ish.... long haired flippin shedder... horror poops, bad litter manners (guess it's trying, but lol, wtf kitty?? I thought that's the one thing pussy's ARE good for, but no, not you, covering your stank is daddy's job >:D >:D)-

The neighbors alpha outdoors cat always hangs out, and our cat is such a puddin... run away run away... I kinda feel sorry for it because it acts so much like that high school outcast... who wants to go through their whole life as such a wuss??

and then the boss came and trolled me into an argument right before I was to leave work- and I dooo have a hard time keepin the curse words from just coming out of my mouth every other word- like the dad in 'Christmas Story', and he knows he can goad me into an argument if I'm not prepared to deal with his trolling ass...

Tues. 5pm

gaaah... I just have to get over this right now...

I see myself ripping kitty apart with bare hands...maybe I'll just take this up in the 'Cruelty to Animals' Thread... hold on...

Why don't you try to be its friend? The Biblical solution might surprise everyone:

It's not the cat, it's roomie catering to cat's every whim instead of teaching it.  I came back at 10pm last night and the flippin house was still wide open. I closed it and went upstairs, heard roomie come out to see if I'd closed the door... ooooo, I defied him.... c'mon, give me a break, it's 10pm, close the flippin door and go to bed...

No, apparently the "enemy" is my desire to be separated from nature when I pay rent to do so. If I wanted to live in the great outdoors I would be... someone else!!!!

If the cat wasn't such a pussy things might be different, but the cat is a cartoon stereotype of fraidy cat... woo woo, just the kind of "person" that's hard to have respect for because they are consumed by FEAR.

Anyhow, it's noon, my day off, home alone, trying not to let this eat up my day...

looks like I'm going to have to prepare to look for a new direction in life... my sister wants me to go memmenite...

i HAVE BEEN FANTASIZING ABOUT HOW ONE PROBLEM CAN COME AND REPLACE (whoops) one's current problem. Yes, which is worse, loud boom-boom music, or stink bug infestation?

My Theory: ALL PROBLEMS ARE EQUALLY DEBILITATING - given enough time and pressure

chinese water torture

But you bring up the point that any "thing" can become a problem that seems like it needs to be stabbed to death... so, I guess we should all be grateful for our struggle since it could always be CAT+TV!!!! or TV+NOISY SEX NEIGHBORS, or JUST BAD NEIGHBORS+ungrateful spoiled brat child...

Yes, things could always get worse

why can't "change" ever mean something GOOD???!!??!!!

CHANGE... waaaaaah :'( :'( :'(

My drunk ex used to think that if it had fur, it was a "baybee" (say it in a sing song)

DID I ALSO MENTION that roomie uses the silverware for cat food, so sometimes I'm eating food and smell something funky on my fork? I don't even know if it's a phantom smell, because I just can't believe he would use a fork for the cat....

I just cleaned the fork and it still smells like... I dunno, it smells bad... (not my upper lip either, ... just checked!!!! ;))

I'm not ready to meet God just yet, uh boy :(

My Theory: ALL PROBLEMS ARE EQUALLY DEBILITATING - given enough time and pressure

Oh man, you just said a mouthful!  ???
A little TV is annoying but the same c**p recycled OVER AND OVER???
The SAME adverts, news... the most hated is the "music" announcing the news, shamelessly playing upon the emotions.
Heck, I am a professional musician! SOUND AFFECTS ME DEEPLY!!!
Sometimes I feel like picking up an ax and smashing the idiot box to smithereens...

I love cats.  8)

My cat likes to hide in boxes

The cat from France likes to sing and dance

The cat from Spain flies an aeroplane

The cat from Norway got stuck in the doorway

The cat from Brazil catches a very bad chill

The cat from Berlin plays the violin

The cat from Japan waves a big blue fan

But my cat likes to hide in boxes!

(Abbreviated version of popular New Zealand children's book) (Eve Sutton/Lynley Dodd)

My daughter loved this book as a child:

Christopher Smart (1722-71): Jubilate Agno, Fragment B

To expand the subject, I tried to be inclusive of other maddeningly annoying conditions like blaring TV.
It's cat mating time around here, so there is raucous noise within and without.
I have good earphones now but do not wear them all the time...

Actually, on a lighter note, I spoke with kitty about roomie, and now kitty has puked three times in ROOMIE'S SPACE!!

That's pretty impressive. I believe that IF YOU believe that the animal understands, they it does (maybe it unbderstands even if you don't)??

So, yea, kitty WANTS to be a good kitty, and knows roomie is being a typical tard on this subject.

And kitty ALWAYS tells someone whenever anything has been expelled from its body.

But that's not the issue... don't muddy the waters!!

Repetitive... MY Thread??!! :P :P

What are you feeding that poor animal? Kibble is very good for their digestion with water nearby.
You are lucky if the feline is male. We have a problem of kitties making more kitties, becoming a virtual animal maternity hospital around here.
I buy kibble in bulk, a possible reason why they all converge here.
(I also talk to the cats which raises some eyebrows. Didn't anyone ever hear of Dr. Doolittle?)

(I know this thread is a smidge old)...

I hope this cat situation is all sorted. The impression I get is the cat's human staff (your roomie) is neglectful and perhaps should not be sharing their life with a cat. With any pet comes responsibilities. No domestic cat should keep throwing up fur balls; grooming (grooming gloves are best) and anti-fur ball paste will sort that. The cat litter issue could also be sorted by someone that understood (or attempted) to understand their cat's behaviour. A happy cat is fastidiously clean.

A good time for bumping this thread, as Marc-Antoine Fardin was just awarded the ig-Nobel Prize in Physics for his study on the rheology of cats - "Fardin's study argues that that cats can be regarded as simultaneously solid and liquid due to their ability to adopt the shape of their container".

I bought a 'mouse toy' for our cat to play with. It was battery controlled and worked on carpet. However, when I opened the packet, instead of a mouse toy, it was a large black rat, of bubonic plague proportions. When I got it going our cat flew straight out of the cat flap. Even my wife was frightened of it. It went to the charity shop.

Here's a good one. Piano students going on vacation in July, so I get a phone call, "Do you know someone who can take our cat?" There is a problem anyway since they live in an apartment building close to the street and the cat, then about 2 months old, could easily get killed. The kids however were very diligent in leaving food for him, which the other neighbors compained about.

The kids were worried he might be blind since he had a running infection on both eyes. Since we have experience with this in kittens, usually keeping the area clean, lightly wiping around the eye a few times a day usually solved it.  I showed them by wetting a tissue and taking some of the dried mucus from the face.

He was pretty good about coming home in the carrier box. The worry was the other cats around here, particularly the alpha female who still gives him a side swipe now and then when she can get away with it. As we are on the first floor with a garden outside, we kept him inside for some days just to get used to the premises.

He screamed everytime I went near his left eye, the source of the problem as I was to find out at the vet's, so it was not easy to clean it. I checked the internet for what to do and tried some home remedies like warm milk compresses but the unavoidable remained to take him to the clinic.

Fortunately, the day we went there was an eye specialist and both doctors said he had a congenital conditiion, the skin surrounding the sockets were inverted so the eyes could not protrude properly. But more than the the left eye had some eyelash tthat was constantly grating on the eyeball.

There was no choice than to have him operated on, as the other alternative was to have him lose his sight while continuing in pain. I wrote the parents about this, asked if they were interested in contributing to the operation fund - no answer! Oh well, some people don't feel that kind of responsibility towards animals. The ball was in our court, so our lookout.

After paying $350 and 5 visits to the vet, Puss is a lively sweetheart, purrs like a machine on my lap, could be gratitude on his part. He knows now how to open the screen in the bathroom window so lets himself in, did it just now. He gets up at the crack of dawn, scratching on the door for his breakfast of kibble, which spoils my slumber.

Was it all worth it? It sure is!

Very nice story - you were kind and he clearly appreciates it. I once, as a teenager, tended a stray male cat who had a fight injury to his side. When I bathed the wound he purred very loudly almost as if he knew that I was trying to help him. I think that my parents footed the vet's bill when we took him for a check up. My mother never stopped reminding us that it was more expensive when our own cats had kittens than when my brother and I were born.  :)

It was actually an interesting learning experience. The two doctors and their assistant are French, very devoted and skilled. A congenital condition like that could never be fixed except for a medical intervention. I think they had to cut some of the skin around the eyes to open it up but it all healed in a couple of days. He was so funny when he came out of anesthesia, like he was drunk.

Thanks but Puss is still up at the crack of dawn scratching on the door. (Actually we had a dog who did that many years ago.) What I don't understand is HOW he knows because it is still dark before the birds start cheeping. In other words, what prompts him (and the dog as well) to get up precisely at that time?

There is something else I never figured out about cats, how they come to the very window in the room where you happen to be. I read about some blind people who were able to develop this sense of feeling space (even for walking down streets) but not with walls in between.

I went to see my neighbour the other day. Whilst I was talking to her I looked at the window and outside was our cat looking at me in a very accusatory way which said 'what on earth are you doing in there?' This happened with previous cats as well. I think that this one recognises my car engine noise as even if I park the car right down the other end of the road he is invariably waiting for me.

Oh sure, dogs also know the sound of different car engines.

KteePsee (picture shown on left two years ago when she was a kitten) did not exactly roll out the welcome mat for Puss, an adopted cat from my piano students. They couldn't take care of him anymore nor deal with his eye infection which precipitated our taking him to the vet and paying for his operation three months ago.

KP didn't bother with him too much but now swipes at him whenever she can. They were at it two nights ago and after such an incident Puss was not his normal self, rather growling and miserable. His nice purr, very musical simply stopped. I thought he may have been a little sick to begin with, seems he spit up some food on the grass outside three days ago. Now he won't eat at all, or very little, just a bit of water.

There have been viruses going around decimating the kitten population but at 5 months he should be immune by now. This is the 2nd day he has been in the house, curled up in a ball on the sofa, getting extra care and attention.  But still he won't snap out of it. He doesn't seem to have a fever and is not running to the toilet but changes his position or place of rest occasionally.

I was just wondering if anyone has had experience with traumatized cats. The snubbing and attack by the other cat may not be the reason for his funk. I'm reading up online about cat psychology...

KP is a mistress of blackmail. She jumps on he kitchen cabinet threatening to break something if I don't pull out something to eat from the fridge. I was reading now, however, some cats do recognize and dote on the heightened attention they get when being sick. One feline I just read about, even pretended to limp when his injured foot was OK just to get that extra stroking from those silly humans.

We just got back from the vet. Puss did have a fever, a rather high one. He was screaming and clawing while getting antibiotic and fluid replacement shots. Now he is back to his quiet self, somewhat in shock. He has to go back to the clinic because his eye really didn't heal well from the operation two months ago. Probably it has been source of the current trouble. A waiting room at a veterinarian clinic is always interesting for the people and animals one meets.

We had to move where we keep eggs as our cat rolls them individually off the table and on to the floor creating an appalling mess. I once heard him slurping from my glass of beer. He's incredibly greedy - but we love him too!

Are you lucky enough to have farm fresh eggs (chickens of your own or neighbors?)?  I store my store-bought eggs in the fridge.

Sometimes I buy them from the farm run by the kids (children not young goats) at the school where I work. We've been told that the eggs should not be stored in the fridge. Now we have a ceramic hen that we store them in.

You're probably right. The eggs are sold at £1.00 for six which is amazingly good value. The cat has not yet worked out how to remove the lid of the ceramic hen to get at the eggs or manoeuvre it onto the floor so that it smashes to smithereens. Our cat destroys the sofas as well as smashing eggs. It is a bit of an issue here. I have to take him to the vets regularly to have his claws clipped.

I have a chaise (covered with a nubby-kind of fabric which is particularly cat-attractive) which has seen much better days; that's withhaving one large cat tree which has a rope-wrapped main column good for scratching and stretching.  The sofa has been climbed on/laid on over the years but is covered in a kind of cotton velvet(??) [no real pile] and hardly shows any claw marks.

Have you ever tried to get your cats used to you trimming their claws?  I've found (with the fussiest of the ones) that if you get them when they're sleepy/relaxed and at worst, do it a few claws at a time that you can do it at home.  I did also see a clever (and cute) video of two techs getting a kitten used to (and enjoying--or at least not noticing) having his claws trimmed.  One was holding the kitten on her lap and trimming the claws; the other was feeding the kitten little bits of canned tuna!   ;D

Cute!  Nice kitty setup!  Isn't it amazing, though, after all of the trouble, expense and fuss that we go through to make out cats comfy and happy, that it's the simplest and cheapest things that they like....like boxes, paper bags, a crumpled up ball of paper....and one of the finest things in life, the red plastic sealing ring which you need to peel off of a milk/juice bottle (tried to find a photo of it) in order to open said bottle.  That and a plastic diet cola bottle cap.

And life's good!

I don't have any grandchildren PD. However, my daughter did get engaged this week to her lovely Canadian BF so maybe that is a hopeful sign - but, who knows?

Retrieving a cat toy from beneath a kitchen appliance.
Ah, yes, that can be quite the challenge.  I found that using an old wooden yardstick worked quite well.  Getting kitty toys out from under the stove was also a pain.  It meant lifting out a drawer at the bottom of the stove (a nice deep one which holds roasting pans, etc.) which was quite heavy, finding said toy, and then lifting heavy drawer and putting it back into place.  ::)

Jeffrey,

You might wish to share this link with your cousin.  I found the original poster(s) of that video on TikTok.  They are done by a very creative woman and her family.  Her daughter does Penny's voice.  You can hear how the cat's voice changes as she's (the daughter) growing up.  ;D  The husband has also become involved.  They seem to be a very sweet family.  There are also a number of other videos there--many of them featuring conversations with Penny the cat.  :)  They have quite a number of followers too!

My favorite Cat music is The Cat Came Back by one Harry S. Miller.  I can't find my favorite video which had the cutest little kitten leaping over the grass during the chorus, it was a Fred Penner performance.

There are even versions throwing Hit the Road, Cat, Don'tcha come back no more, but I haven't found a good video of it.

"Mudball"

She's actually as evil as she looks.  Adopted from a shelter five years ago.  She is a bully, terrorizes a sweet tempered, smaller cat we (wife and I). took in from an elderly gentleman about to move in with his kids a couple years ago.  I've watched her stalk the smaller cat, who now refuses to come downstairs.  She actually tries to sneak past us to get upstairs.  She also displays her incorrigibility by refusing to use litter box right in front of us.  She was adopted with our third cat who is twice her size and has learned to ignore her.  My wife is open in her dislike of Mudball; but while Mudball definitely isn't our favorite cat, she is still part of the family and almost desperate in begging our affection-- always jumping in our laps even if it means pushing her "sister" cat off.  Really, though, what are we supposed to do?  As I said:  part of the family.
Have you tried things like trying to get them to play together?  Like using a wand toy and playing with them for some time?  I haven't been in the same situation as you, but have sometimes watched some of those older Jackson Galaxy shows ("My Cat from Hell").  He deals with various problem cats and different situations (including some who attack one of the owners!).  You might pick up some ideas?  I feel for the smaller cat.   :(  And/or talk to your vet for suggestions?

How true! We've just purchased an expensive roll of material to cover the shredded section of our sofa.
Mudball does look quite evil I must say. When I was young my family had two female cats. One was very stroppy and the other one (found in a bin on November 5th - Guy Fawkes Night) was v timid. If we weren't looking the larger cat would shove the smaller one off her food at mealtime - very bad. It was amazing that the small one (Penny) lived to be an old cat without apparently consuming any food!

Ouch!  Do you have any sort of "official" scratching devices?  Like a cat tree with some roping wrapped around the main column for scratching or any sort of cardboard scratching posts?  Those help a lot.  As I'm sure that you know, scratching is a natural part of a cat's life.

https://allaboutcats.com/why-do-cats-scratch

And, yes,  animal shelters often describe cats as needing to be the only kitty in a home.

While it's certainly an admirable act to adopt any animal from a rescue shelter, l must say l would never accept such a dog or cat ( possibly a bird at the most ) for a pet. The unfortunate fact is that they can be dangerous, as a family member discovered some years ago.

If l owned Mudball and discovered her behaving as described, I'd start looking for someone without another cat ( or any other potential target ) to take her. Just my opinion.

I've seen or heard of instances in which a cat behaviorist helps; that's why I made the suggestions that I did.  Some of those cats that, for instance, Jackson Galaxy has worked with--more like working with the owners--were viciously attacking either another cat in the household or one of the owners.  Amazing to see the difference!

And no, I don't think that he or she was serious about giving away the cat.  More likely, I suspect that knowing that there are lots of animal lovers there, he figured that it would be a better way to get people's attention re the lost keys.  :D  Where did you find that Geralmar?  I googled and apparently the area code is in the general Seattle/VC area.
