Disagree and it's basically the only time I have ever had negative thoughts about you. Which is why I would rather not be reminded about it.

Quote from: foxandpeng on February 03, 2023, 05:25:16 AMI appreciate that every site has strong personalities and passionately held opinions. Resultant conflicts or spats are inevitable in cyberspace because human nature is what it is. Having said that, I presently rarely post or visit GMG - although I don't have any interpersonal issues whatsoever, I don't enjoy the way in which members are sometimes treated or the tone of those conversations.

Despite his undoubted culpability in this area, I also miss MI. I think the particular episode that precipitated his leaving was instrumental in my own stepping back, along with an observed series of particularly acerbic exchanges around the same time. I may feel differently about my involvement in the site over time, but I suspect others were equally saddened. No drama, hence no flouncing out with fanfares or recriminations. I doubt my absence was even really noted, all of which is fine. There is undoubtedly a great deal of good here.
Yes, it was noted Danny.

When did kyjo leave?

Edit: apologies, kyjo left but then returned with a new account and I saw a post by the old one and made an assumption. He's still around!

I just got an alert saying that deprofundis has added me to their buddy list, but when I searched for deprofundis in the members list to send a  message saying hello, nothing came up.

What's going on?

When you change your username the system seems to remember your original username (it reverts to that if you delete your account). Is it possible that deprofundis changed his username but it reports the original name when it tells you about the buddy request.

If you click on a username next to a post, there is an option on the user profile page to add the user to your "buddy list". I just added you to mine to test it. I haven't found anything else that it does yet.

Edit: I've found one use for the buddy list. It is possible to only allow people on your buddy list (and administrators) to send you personal messages.

Many thanks for the explanation.

Deprofundis was a former member here, with many issues (as it turned out), whose account was deleted. Since that time, he has tried to re-register under different names.

Apparently he added you to his buddy list, before his account was deleted (again).

Ah, I am disappointed that his behaviour led the moderators to the decision to delete his account.

I had no idea his account(s) was/were deleted by the mods and honestly, I am surprised by that. He used to start half a dozen new threads every week and wrote the worst English I ever read but other than that I can't think of any real annoyance he created that might have justified a ban. His exclusive interest was Renaissance music and never posted in political threads. I am truly puzzled.

I have a similar impression, although I probably only saw 1% of what he posted, and some of it was rather bizarre.

I daresay the moderators have seen a lot of things behind the scenes that they are too classy to disclose in public. Maybe they'll write tell-all memoirs some day.  :P

You would be correct.

After snyprrr or whoever from back in the day, the most bizarre person I've ever encountered on a forum. And they were here for *years*...I wonder why their English didn't even remotely improve.

How about your foreign language skills?

I am pretty certain that deprofundis is dyslexic. It isn't a question of his English, he had difficulty with spelling in his native language.

Yes, this is my impression too.

As to deprofundis I saw that he had registered a week ago, but apparently his account is deleted again - don't know by whom. He may have added you as buddy within that week.

Thanks, I am not sure that had occurred to me. (The language difficulty, yes, but not the possible cause of it.)
