...please, be so kind as to let us know. It's very confusing to wake up one morning and see a "veteran member" with thousands of posts, whose username doesn't ring any bell. Lovfald / SymphonicAddict, I'm looking at you!  :D

Actually, there was such a thread on the old version of the forum but I can't find it anymore.

(poco) Sforzando

I used to be merely "sforzando," after my friend Brian wrote at one point that "I don't know what 'sforzando' means, though clearly it means something." As indeed it does. Then I was told that "sforzando" might be a bit strong, so I amended my user name to "(poco) 'sforzando,'" an oxymoron if ever there was one. But that's where it will stay.

When I was still active on ClassicalMusicGuide.com, before I was kicked off for making too much fun of the humorless far-right moderator, I called myself "Alban Berg." But that was kind of arrogant.

Thanks for clarifying that Andrei - I was confused by 'Lovfald' as well.

I find amusing how my change of username and avatar has confused some members here. It's simply a matter of checking out some posts and realizing the person in question.

Can I ask what the new name refers to?

Myself, I couldn't pass up an oppurtunity to tease Florestan.
(The avatar is a Rembrandt engraving of an man named Ephraim Bonus, alternately titled "Portrait of a Jewish Physician".)

It's the title of Langgaard's Symphony No. 4, a work that resonates with me very much, both musically and for the composer's philosophy/beliefs behind it.

Are you going to stick with your new avatar and username? Or just for the moment?

Yeah, I find this confusing, too.

Though if you morphed back and forth between Florestan and Eusebius, I'd probably get it.

I haven't decided.

Thanks, Andrei, for making this thread. The old thread you are referring to was actually started by me and for the exact same reasons. It went down with the rest of our accumulated knowledge during the Old Forum Software Catastrophe.

It is indeed a confusing situation when people change names and act like nothing happened. It's only polite to notify others of the change, otherwise it comes off as a rude and alienating, narcissistic move.

Well, excuse me, Cesar, but what if I have neither the time nor the inclination to browse through your posting history? Had you kept your Nielsen signature line I'd have known it's you, but you changed it as well.

It really used to be common practice here to announce avatar and username changes, or at least to put "formerly known as..." under the new avatar, and I think it should continue.

Well, Jeffrey, had you changed your personal text and signature line too, you would surely have confused me.  ;)

Well, that's your issue then. I don't have the need (neither do I want) to do what others do. I am free to be the way I want. Also, I don't like to be too much involved on places like this. I don't take them too seriously.

Sometimes, doing what others do is a question of basic politeness.

Actually, this is yet another question of basic politeness, not to tell people with whom you've been interacting for years that actually you don't take the whole thing too seriously.

No offense intended but I really dislike it when people change usernames. It's very confusing; I even dislike people changing avatars (one reason I haven't one).

There is an option by which you can ignore all avatars and signatures. All you will see are just the usernames.
