To me it's totally believable they didn't have t-shirts and sneakers in the first place (I think he's wearing thongs, or should I say flip-flops for an international audience *squints*)

What's a mystery to me is how anyone thought this remotely connected with classical period chamber music. Something 20th century, maybe. Just. MOZART? Nothing in that image makes me think of Mozart.

I suppose you found a connection with Beethoven, though, because you didn't mention him.  :D

I think we need a new thread: Most Disconnected Art Covers from the Music on the CD.  ;D

I actually found a quote about the cover from when the album was released.

QuoteThe highly-charged atmosphere, and the dynamic tension both in the music and the context of the era, is strikingly represented by the album's artwork – a photograph by Richard Tognetti, depicting a uniquely Australian scene of a beach town just before a thunderstorm. Two figures walk towards the gathering storm, as rain begins to fall on the bitumen and the weatherboard houses. Though a world away from 18th-century Vienna, this image seems to reflect that city's musical landscape at the time – with the dark, glowering, dramatic cloud of Beethoven looming, poised to change everything.

Yeah. Apparently Tognetti's ego extends to putting his own holiday snaps on the cover. And the author of the article is going "yeah I know it's got absolutely nothing to do with the music but I'm going to support it anyway because this is a puff piece."

Tognetti's guff is something else indeed.  :D

It would make sense if he was an accomplished photographer (as Boris Giltburg seems to be), but that photo looks like he spent an hour in Photoshop scaling various colors up and down. The result is a really bizarre juxtaposition with no clear visual focal point, just a messy collage of manipulation.

I liked my version better.

The musicians woke up drunk in an alley missing not only their wallets but also their shoes and shirts.  They realized they were going to be late to their own concert so started stumbling down the street. ;D

I like it when everybody gets exited  ;D  about cd cover photographs  :) . Tognetti's photo isn't ugly but can be added - indeed - to a series of "Most Disconnected Art Covers from the Music".

But then again, why not? I prefer this photograph of an Australian landscape vastly to the "banal & mediocre" - shampoo- fashion" shots used for Balakirev and co.

Trombonist:conductor Lindberg however, needs an art director ...

I'm sure he's a jolly good fellow!

Yes, with Beauty Farm covers leading the way.

Brian

That first Lindberg photo is such a failure - he is in the shadow and you can't really see his face!

ritter

And the third Lindberg cover is an unmitigated disaster of graphic design. I wouldn't know where to start... :o

Many of our old favourites are here:

(And one of our real favourites - I'm sure the MTT/Villa-Lobos cover featured in the "Best album art" thread.)

As much as there is A LOT of wrong going on, the worst is the nearly unreadable title.

It's such a fine line between stupid and clever...

That Cuban cover is badass!

Too bad we don't have a worst album NAME thread...
