Also used on one of the first CDs I bought, back in the early 1980s:

The booklet says the Russian translates as "FORWARD! VICTORY IS NEAR!"
"Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience." ― Mark Twain

AFAIK these covers like a few others (Jansons' DSCH series had similar ones) are taken from real Soviet propaganda from the war (or sometimes earlier, from the 20s/30s).
Tout le malheur des hommes vient d'une seule chose, qui est de ne savoir pas demeurer en repos, dans une chambre.

I'm sure the nomination to this thread is because of the politics, not the art. Given the nominator.

I'm going to a Premier League match in a couple weeks, I'll pack a tuba and find out!  ;D

Tell about politics to all those killed by Russians.

It wasn't me who brought this disgusting cover to the forum.

But it is you who is reproducing it, and giving it additional exposure. The cover is that of a new release, and that is a simple fact.

You have all the right to include that cover in this thread, AnotherSpin, but after it is pointed out that the reason for doing that is political, you persist on feeding that debate, for which there is no room on this thread. That's calked trolling.

My thoughts exactly.

Actually, the cover is a perfect match for the music in both cases.

The cover image is not the flaw here.

I've heard Athnes is lovely this time of year.

They got Skalkottas wrong, too. Pity they didn't go for a Greek hat trick and misspell Mitropoulos.

KevinP

At least they got Eroica right.

It doesn't help either.

Maybe the confusion arose from the fact that in Greek Skalkottas is written Σκαλκώτας (with one ταυ). Of course, this does not explain Athnes. 😀

Thanks. They get a pass on Skalkottas, I won't consider that an error.

By the standards of jazz recordings, a spelling goof or typo on a cover is no big deal.  ;D  So maybe that cover isn't particularly bad.

A bit basic, but not offensive. Plus this an earlier BIS release (1993) so... it'll do well enough as a representation of 4 string instruments and a harpsichord, which is literally what's on the album.
