Title: Frederic Rzewski Has Died
Post by: Mandryka on June 26, 2021, 07:27:26 AM
Whatever you think about his music and music making, you can't deny his integrity, his humanity and his intense commitment to music. A sad day I think.

Brilliant composer and pianist, unlike any other. I'm listening to De profundis (1992) now.

Terrible and sad news. I have the Nonesuch box, will have to play much of it, especially De Profundis, in memoriam.
Around the turn of the millennium, I attended a memorable Rzewski solo concert at the Jazz Gallery in Manhattan. He played mostly his own music (inc. D P), but also pieces by Pousseur and Cardew. Christian Wolff was in the audience and got introduced at one point, but I don't recall any of his music being performed. Jed Distler (of classicstoday.com renown) was the MC of sorts and did the introductions.
