Hey, i decided to come back to composition, it has been a long time, i was kinda turned off from the all thing.
Anyway some feedback is needed here!

Piano piece i'm doing right now, just 0.55 seconds so far, need to find the right second motif ;D

An elegy i posted here some time ago, i decided to rework on it and took some of the advices i've read here.
Tkx in advance.
Finished the piano piece , it's 2.30 and i think it's fairly enjoyable. Don't know if i would call it classical but i think it's fairly enjoyable.
J.Guerreiro - Memórias.mp3
you can download it here
you can download the score here

Btw it was my first score (with sibelius), my notation skills are far from good, so any comments on the score itself are welcome and of course the music.

Here is the music eheh
I am really getting into Memorias. I mean this as a compliment: it sounds a bit Chopin-esque.
I haven't had a chance to check out the other stuff, but congratulations on Memorias!
Yes Haffner, it does have a bit of Chopin influence in there amongst others.
And that is a compliment indeed ;D

Thanks!
Sounds lovely!
I hear Satie and Chopin in there. :)
Tkx George.
Now that is something to think about "Modern Chopin", that's a nice concept eheh

Actually I changed my comment to Satie/Chopin. I think that better explains what I am trying to say.
Never heard Satie, must now!

This one is great! I love the broken-hearted mood it has.

Eccelente!
This is meant as a compliment:
Tkx Haffner, nothing better than beavis and butthead to get the point ;D
So, i started something today, it just came out, i thinking of doing a full strings work, kinda like a Chamber Symphony a la Shostakovich.
This what i did today, just 1.30m
http://www.mediafire.com/?f4yd9indjyg
Any comments, encouragemnt, criticism, observations, etc are welcome, this is kinda of new territory for me, so anything will help :)

I love the mood, the drama and the idea of a work for strings alone. However, I am hearing quite a bit more repetition that I would prefer. Were you going for a minimalist approach?

I see want you mean, i will work on that for sure, tkx for listening 8)

No problem. The result sounds to me more like Tchaikovsky than DSCH.
Yeh i definetely can see that, it doesn't remind me much of Shosty as well, which is a good thing, means i am not ripping him off eheh
One part actually reminds me of Dvorak's 7th symphony, i had no intention whatsoever, but it kinda reminds me of it.
Good thing i really like that Dvorak symphony ;D
Really liked the Symphony demo. Interestingly, I thought Mahler more than once.
Cool, Mahler is cool ;D
I'm taking a time off from the piece right now, i'll finish sometime in the future.
Just started reading a book about jazz theory, so i'm spending my time on the piano messing around and learning a bit more, very interesting.
I want to improve my piano skills!, it feels just great improvising over some basic jazz progressions, i imagine the pleasure it must be to play the more advanced stuff.
Damn time, so restrictive!!!

Something i just did,
http://www.mediafire.com/?a5bm2zpd4zw
Piano piece, it has a middle eastern feel in some parts, i tried to put some jazz in there too, and this is what came out.
It was molded after a series of improvisations.

I hear the jazz early. This piece at times makes me think of a Manhattan night: uncertain sometimes, deftly resolving others; the whole of this piece
is the piece. The end is perfect.
Yeh i call it desert night, kinda of pun cuz jazz normally reminds me of the night.

I enjoyed it,
Emperor, thanks for sharing. :)
It unfolds nicely. The first four or five chords first brought to mind
Arvo Part's Fratres (it being in the phrygian mode)-- I wonder if you've heard
Chick Corea's Children's Songs for piano? (no, they are certainly not songs for children to perform on the piano!)
Good job!
Tkx just josh, no i haven't heard those Chick Corea's pieces, i will give them a listen.
Yeh i see what you mean about the first 4 chords, maybe it was my subconscious working eheh
Anyway, tkx for listening and the comments :)

I really hope this doesn't rub you the wrong way, but I can hear a massively distorted guitat accompanying alot of this. But then I'm a Metalhead from wayyyy back.
Very cool!
Actually i think i know what you mean.
One thing that really inspired me in this piece was flamenco guitar playing, so i went into the phrygian mode and at some times i kinda tried to emulate a guitar eheh
And of course, i'm a metalhead from way back too, so i guess sometimes that pops in the music 8)

Wow, this one may the best yet. I
love the mood in this one. My only suggestion is to edit out some of the notes in the melody in the first/final section as things get a bit crowded. Well done!

Tkx George!
Yeh, the volume on the accompaniment could be lowered so the melody pops out more clearly. don't know if thats what you mean, i hear it fine in my head but yeh. Tkx again \o

I actually meant that the melody literally has more notes at a few points in the A section and then in the closing section. When this happens, it sounds crowded, like there's too many notes in the melody (Right Hand.) I actually like that the accompaniment has a strong role, it helps to create the mood.
The best way to explain my point is to consider the opening melody the piano plays in the Rach 3 PC. One of the things that makes it so effective and mysterious is the fact that it doesn't have a lot of notes, it has just enough to make its point, leaving some air to breathe.
Oh i see what you mean, i actually did that on purpose, in the last section i put the focus on the left hand playing a simple ostinato pattern and open that room in the right hand.
The goal was to be familiar but different at the same time, cuz i've repeat it with more notes and the breaks in the left hand two times already( i like the rhythm of the melody, is unusual of me, maybe because of the time signature).
I wanted a more flowing melodic ending so i did that.
Anyway, tkx for listening and the coments, i might review it later, as i always do after a while with a clean mind and fresh prespective, cuz after so many hours writing and listening to it, i don't know what the hell to think eheh.
It's been a while!
