I'm starting this as a thread where those having trouble with the board technicalities (such as adding a picture to a post etc.) can ask other, more experienced members for help. Hope it will be of use.

Best idea in a long time! Thank you Maciek. :-*
I noticed all the cover pictures of purchased CDs, etc. The only way I can manage it is so complicated going from this to that program. There has to be an easier way. Who can tell me, speaking English please, not Computerish! ???
Uffe:
I usually just click on "File" at the top left of the screen, then click "new window" and then use that new window to search for the image using google.
Once I find the image I want, I copy the address of the image, close the window (opened above). Then I paste the address onto the desired thread.

Lis - quite easy, as
George has already explained; the first point to realize about an 'image' on the Web is that it has to have a unique URL (an address), so if you can find that address, copy it (using the usual Windows commands, i.e. Ctrl C & Ctrl V for 'copy' & 'paste'), and then 'paste it' into your message using the 'image icon' at the top of your 'Post Reply' then you're home free! Always do a 'Preview' to make sure it has worked correctly.
As an example, below I decided to copy an image into this message from Amazon (you could go to any site or use Google & bring up the 'Images' selection -makes no difference) - the image was a Mozart disc of 'String Quintets', steps:
1. Open a 'new' window & find the image desired, such as on Amazon.
2. Bring up the image desired and the 'right-click' on the image.
3. When the menu appears, select the 'Properties' option.
4. When properties opens, go to the URL and use 'Ctrl-C' to copy the address (this is the unique identifier).
5. Return to your 'Post Reply' and click on the icon 'Image' - a bracketed image set will appear.
6. Between the two brackets, use 'Ctrl-V' to paste the image URL into that location; that is it. Do as many as needed.
Now, you may find 'images' of different 'pixel sizes' esp. when using Google images - that is why some images posted seem 'small' & others appear 'huge' - usually an image in the 200 to 400 pixel range is a pretty nice size, but you can experiment to see what you like. Hope this helps - Dave :D P.S. Simply click on reply to see the 'bracketed' image notation for the URL insertion; actually, you can simply type in these same commands (and all of the others) if you want to use the HTML language directly; just plenty of different options.

Lis,
Do you have a Mac or a PC?
I have a Mac and it's super easy! Should translate perfectly to PC.
• As George and Sonic mentioned open a new window by clicking on the File option in your menu bar at the top left of your computer. Once you do that you'll be back on the net.
• Find a pic (JPC, Amazon, CD Universe are good for CD covers).
• Go back to your GMG post leaving your 'new window' open.
• Type in [i m g] <-- Note: do NOT space letters out like this. I only did it because the normal lettering initiated the "insert image" process and made a mess of this post! ;D
• Simply drag pic from the 'new window' and insert it into your post after [i m g].
• Type in [ / i m g] after your pic and you're done!
Remember no spaces between letters in [img's] or [/img's].
BTW, click on the image you find to enlarge it.
You can also alter the size of your image once you've inserted it into your post:
What might help, Lis, is simply "quote" my post as if you were going to reply to me and take a sneak peek at all I've done! :)

Thanks, Don!
I never knew how to do that! I often can't find large enough pictures and wondered how people find large ones.
In yours, you made it smaller, but I can see it works to make it bigger (below):
Now, I just need someone to explain the tinyurl function. ???
George! Don! SonicMan: Waking up and finding caring replies from you Gentlemen, made my sunny Sunday even sunnier! I printed out your advise and I shall practice, practice, practice!
I'm glad the idea for this thread worked out. :D
Another tip from me: you can make an image "clickable" - so that clicking on it would take you to another site.
The general formula is this:

(sorry for the size of this, can't figure out how to make it larger... :-\)
Here's an example. On the page http://www.merlin.com.pl/frontend/browse/product/4,427832.html there's an image of a compact disc. I would like to post the image on the forum and make it "clickable", so that anyone who clicks on the image will be taken to the appropriate web page. In order to do this you have to "embed" the img inside the url. So if you type in
you will get the following effect (click on the image to see that it in fact does send you to another page):
(http://www.merlin.com.pl/images_product/25/3460382.jpg) (http://www.merlin.com.pl/frontend/browse/product/4,427832.html)
Note that the url and /url "commands" are on the outside, while the img and /img "commands" are on the inside (embedded in the url).
Here's another example, maybe the shorter url will make things easier?
If you type in

you will get a gigant.pl logo that sends you to the Google search page (try it):
(http://www.gigant.pl/assets/images/p1.jpg) (http://www.google.com/)
Phew! I'm not sure if this is English or Computerish but it's the best I can come up with at the moment... :-\
Now here is my question: there was a "Convenient thread alignment" thread on the old forum, where people would post screenshots of GMG. How was that done? (Since we can't post there anymore, the "quote" option is not available... :()
Maciek
Tiny Url help please? ???
OK, I'm not sure if I understand the concept correctly myself but since no one else is offering, I'll try to explain... ::)
The general idea is that some web addresses are very, very long. In fact, they are so long that if you try to type them out on a page of regular size, they won't fit in one line. This happens when you send someone a link in your e-mail: if the link is very long, part of it will be moved to the next line. This causes a "break" in the web address - the address might not work anymore after that. I think tinyurl.com is a sort of gigantic bookmark service. What you do is give them the address that you want shortened, and they save that address on their server and give you a very short link leading to the bookmark on their pages. Now you can easily give the web link to anyone - it is very short so it won't "break". The new link simply connects you to a sort of redirection page (because the full web address is stored on the tinyurl server). Supposedly, those links are going to be stored on that server forever, so once you get your tiny url link you might as well forget about the long version - tinyurl will remember it for you.
Now I expect to feel infinitely embarrassed shortly, because someone will surely point out that I'm speaking some sort of nonsense. But, FWIW, I tried. ;)
Anyone able to answer my question (at the end of my previous post)?

Pretty simple actually
a) take a screenshot
b) crop it to get just what you want
c) upload it to some image hosting place like Imageshack and then link to it
or d) click on Additional Options.... and simply attach it to your post
OK! That:

George,
Don't know about tinyurl but here's a method for shortening links that's very simple:
Amazon. (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/573448/ref=m_mh_mn_bc/002-2692068-0725644)
Simply copy whatever link you want and paste it inside the brackets of [ u r l = ] <-- (no spaces). Type in a word after the bracket then follow with [ / u r l ].

WOW, thanks Don! I think I got it
1. Copy link
2. Type [ u r l =
(without the spaces)
3. Paste the website next, put a ] at the end.
4. Then put a space and the name I ish to appear followed by [ / u r l ]
(again without spaces.)

Yes, and images linked to web pages is another feature not described there. And anyway, I've noticed many people are repeatedly having trouble posting photos, attachments etc. despite the existence of the help pages. I'm sure this thread won't hurt and might actually help. Sometimes you need someone else to point out the exact mistake you are making or step you have missed.

If this happens (look at what happens after number seven):

9)
you can select "Don't use smileys" in the Additional Options (it's right below the window where you type your posts).
Either that, or you could use fullstops instead of brackets... 0:)

I would like if there was a more localized way of disabling smilies. Such as latex kind of style is that \ is a preface for all commands. If smilies had a special character in front of all of them such as \8) to distinguish between

On my computer it shows on one line. It's just that your monitor is smaller, like the one I once had at work, so it pushes the text down.
That's Marvin's problem, George. He wants to insert a hard return so that the dates sit beneath Wagner's name. Trouble is, I've forgotten the code for this ...

Sorry, misunderstood your problem.
Have you tried just putting empty space after the last name?
Otherwise, I'd PM a moderator for help. :)
No it can't be done reliably. The custom text area does not allow anything other than simple text - no HTML or BBC formatting.
The text overflows to the next line when the text is too long for the column, so if Richard Wagner's name was much longer, the dates would flow into the next line.
In which case, just keep hitting SPACE till the dates go onto the next line, no?

No - the system strips the excess spaces.
You could do something like this: "~ ~ Richard Wagner ~ ~" to pad it out a bit, and experiment until the dates flow onto the next line.
Otherwise, how about something completely different, such as some Personal Text?

Well, though you dislike Bruckner, you must have posted at least once on that thread... ;D

I'm not suggesting there is anything
wrong with Bruckner's music, only that I don't care for it.
In fact, I'm not fond of the Romatic area in general, which is not suggesting that there's anything
wrong with Romantic music ...

I've got a questions about the "Show new replies to your posts" facility. I use this quite a bit for quick access to a few threads that I enjoy and regularly track. The problem is that I posted in the 'Bruckner Abbey' thread once many months ago. Now 'Bruckner Abby' keeps turning up & turning up.
I hate Bruckner's music; how can I stop 'Bruckner Abbey' showing when I use 'Show new replies to your posts'? (Good grief!! there seems to be a lot of activity there; hard imagine why.)
After you click through the threads you really care about, hit the "Mark Read" button. Then they won't show up until there is a new post. Its not exactly what you want, but its helpful.
So there is no way to unsubscribe to a thread? Many boards have that feature; I thought for sure this one would as well. ???

This situation at hand is a little different from subscribing to threads, which goes by the name of 'Notify' in this board. Subscription does not require that you post in the thread.
I suspect this is more a computer problem than a GMG one, but perhaps someone can give me some advice.
I am now working on a new computer and find that when I preview a post, I get a very small preview box - only about a cm long vertically. Is there any way to change this setting?
Thanks!

If I just post in the thread, I see it under "new replies to your posts" and get no email.
I never figured out how to adjust this, so I usually do what aquariuswb did.
Sorry, I know this is off-topic... what if you change your profile preferences so that you receive "nothing at all" in E-mail notification. Do "new replies" then show up in the "new replies to your posts" list, even if you have not posted?
I, too, would rather not be sent notifications by E-mail.
Hello GMGers. I need a little technical help. ??? How can I post pretty pictures, like CD covers, book covers, movie posters, etc.? I haven't been able to figure that out, and my posts are so (visually, anyway) boring! :( Any help you can give to explain how to find these images and plop them into a post on GMG would be most welcome. Remember, though, you're talking to a technophobe here, so use the "Martian" approach (how would you explain this to a Martian who had never been on Earth before?). Thanks! ;)

When you're writing or replying to a post, there is a little icon in the second row of formatting options that looks like a picture in a frame (it's the third one in the row) - click on it to insert an image. This should appear in your post:
[img][/img]
Now time to find the image. Usually I will just use Amazon, or Google, or whatever, but let's say I want a picture of the movie "Little Miss Sunshine." Amazon has one, so I right-click the picture on Amazon and click "Copy image location." Now I've got this copied: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51i9w-2GkTL._SL500_AA240_.jpg
So I go back and paste that URL in between the img "tags":

Now obviously you won't be putting your pictures in those code boxes - I'm using them to show you what the text will look like when you write the post. Here's what will happen when you submit the post, if all is well:

If amazon wanted to block use of links this way they could easily do so, as some other sites do. Since they don't they presumably don't find the practice a problem, and it may be a benefit to them, since it is an implicit advertisement when people notice where the link originates. So I urge you to ignore the advice above.

That's why I don't use that feature. Once several years ago I posted in a thread called "Time Machine" at AVS Forums and made the mistake of checking "notify by email". It's one of those threads that's about every kind of "what if" you can imagine like parallel universes and telepathy, IOW a real pain. I'm still getting emails 4-5 years later. I haven't looked at that thread since shortly after I posted in it. Anyway, I won't be doing anything like that again. Once in a while I go over to "Meltdown" to see if the world is still ending, and finding that it is I relax. One day I expect I'll go there and find that everyone is unaccountably suffused with enthusiasm for our economic prospects, and that's when we'll probably get hit by a giant asteroid.
:D secondwind, once you get comfortable with posting images you'll want to check out the Resizing Images thread
here (http://www.good-music-guide.com/community/index.php/topic,10919.0.html). Before I read it I was downloading images to my desktop to resize them and then uploading them to ImageShack. This makes it much easier.
Thanks to everyone who has been trying to help me learn to post images! I lost track of this discussion when it was moved to the "How to" thread. . . that's what happens when someone tidies up after me, I can't find anything! (I know I left that thread around here somewhere, now where did I put it?)
Unfortunately, you are all usually talking over my head. Hotlinking? Upload? Picture host? Post a link? dbPowerAmp batch convert? Sorry, but it's a foreign language to me, and I don't even have a dictionary yet! I'll see if there is a 12-year-old child in the neighborhood who can explain it to me! ;D Until then, I'll keep experimenting and re-reading your explanatory posts to see if I can make any progress.
This is what do:
Go to Google Image search;
Do the search, in normal Google fashion;
A page of of thumbnails (small pictures) appears that contains your search terms, scroll through them until you find the image you want;
Click on it. (This will bring you to the page where that image appears split into two frames, the image at the top and the page filling the remainer of the screen.)
Click the link that says "see full size image";
This produces the image with a URL in the location bar. Copy that.
In the GMG Reply box find the image shortcut icon (third from the left just above the emoticons (smilies)) and click it. This will produce this in the Reply box "[img.][/img.]" (without the dots)
Paste the link from your image in between the two [img] codes.
And that's all there is to it.

Poju!
I couldn't find instructions on gmg on how to post mp3s, so I reverse engineered how Que did it and thought I would share so that we could start sharing music samples more often. :)
1. You need to use a server that allows hotlinking, the one that Que uses, File Den (http://www.fileden.com) allows that.
2. Once you register on one of those sites and upload your mp3, you need to get the url for it. For example mine is http://www.fileden.com/files/2009/8/30/2559462/andante.mp3 (http://www.fileden.com/files/2009/8/30/2559462/andante.mp3).
3. You use the mp3 tag, and this is the generic format--
[mp3=width,height,autostart,position]url[/mp3]
You usually want height to be around 1/10 of the width but feel free to make it whatever you want, just don't make the height too small. The two common combinations are 200, 20 and 240, 24. The third number is for manually controlling when the mp3 starts or not, autostart=0 means that the poster has to start it themselves if they want to. Autostart=1 is just being a jerk (it starts automatically)! The last one is position and it can have values of left, center or right. So if you want to start at the beginning of the track and make your little mp3 player 240x24 with autostart disabled and it centered this is what the code to do it looks like--
[mp3=240,24,0,center]http://www.fileden.com/files/2009/8/30/2559462/andante.mp3[/mp3]
which produces [mp3=240,24,0,center]http://www.fileden.com/files/2009/8/30/2559462/andante.mp3[/mp3]
4. Does it play? I ran into this issue-- if your file name is too long or contains unusual characters, you might have a problem. Simply rename it something simple. The only other potential problem is that you are using a server that does not allow hot linking.
Now if someone does this but switches autostart to 1, and you are using firefox and adblock you can simply click "block" on the corner of the little mp3 player and you won't be aggravated upon future visits. :)
Edit: I replaced the full track I had with a little snip of something else. :)
And for a detailed in-depth analysis of the feature ;D, go here:
Embedding MP3 files (http://www.good-music-guide.com/community/index.php/topic,2710.0.html)
Oh thanks Maciek, I tried all sorts of searching but didn't come up with anything. :(
Maciek is da man!
Okay so I looked up official policy and found
QuoteIllegal Activity
GMG will not tolerate the discussion or promotion of any illegal activity. In particular, GMG should not be used as a means for distributing or sharing copyrighted music files. File sharing is strictly prohibited on GMG. Small music samples may be posted on the forum, but anything that contravenes copyright laws will not be acceptable behaviour.
So before I go hog wild with mp3s on gmg, how small is small? Might I post a few minutes of a movement, would that be fine? If we know what qualifies acceptable, I think we could see alot more people posting clips which would be neat (posting something longer than amazon clips and at a higher bitrate would be cool).

Unfortunately, copyright law is a very nebulous area.
Most copyrighted music can be reproduced under certain circumstances known as "Fair Use". I suggest reading Wikipedia's article about Fair Use (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_use).
Basically it boils down to this. You can use or reproduce a piece of music without infringing copyright laws if:
1. The use is not for commercial purposes
2. The commercial value of the reproduced music is small
3. The proportion sampled is small compared to the entire work
4. The effect on the original owner of the music is small
What commercial values, what proportion, and how much of an effect on the original is not clearly defined.
I suggest that using short (less than 1 minute) samples of works, where the purpose is to discuss, educate or review, and NOT to share, should be allowable on GMG.
Hope this helps more than it confuses.
Cheers
Rob
Thanks Rob, I think that clarifies the issue. :)
Question: How to use multiple quotes? How to quote from various other topics into the topic you want to post or reply in?
I haven't noticed this to be covered on this thread, and found it not quite touched upon in the 'Help' tab.
I know several members use this function, and seem pretty fast in using it too, so it must not be as complicated as it would seem.
I imagine that it involves opening a second GMG forum window so you can peruse other threads and not lose your reply box in your first GMG forum window?

Here's my problem: I purchased a download of Siegfried, and it comes as 3 files (one per act). I want to burn them on disc.
The first file exceeds the maximum length of time a disc can handle (it's 82:37 long).
Does anyone know how to cut the file into two sections?
What format are they in right now, Lilas?
8)
----------------
Listening to:
Netherlands Radio Chamber Orchestra-Halstead - Wilms - op.58 Symphony #6 in d-2nd mvmt-Andante quasi allegretto e grazioso
Also, EAC (http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/) has the ability to check the real capacity of your CD-R (some of them can easily hold 83 mins) and actually burn that much (overburn). It works, I've used it many times (of course provided that your burner can do it - some of them can't).
If the file format is Ogg Vorbis, MP3, WAV or AIFF, you can use Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) (it's free) to split the file into two tracks. Also, if the file format is FLAC, you could decode (convert) it to WAV and then use Audacity.
It seems to be MP 3 - well, that's what it says if I ask for the properties. I normally use Burrn, which I know can overwrite up to 82 minutes. But when I drag the file into the Burrn program, nothing happens (it doesn't go in). I have to use Monkey or Windows Media Player. Except that THEY don't overwrite. I have an error message for that Act 1 file. I guess the answer would be to find a way to get it to the Burrn program.
Anyone knows how o do it? If not, I'll try Audacity (although that could be arduous for yours truly... :'( )
Well, if it's an mp3, you can also use mp3DirectCut (http://mpesch3.de1.cc/mp3dc.html) to cut it. It has the merit of working directly with the mp3 file (unlike Audacity, which first converts the file into its native format, and then back to mp3 again) and doing the cutting losslessly.
Thanks, 'Mack the Knife' ;).
I downloaded Audacity yesterday, imported my file in the program and got stuck, not knowing what to do next. I'll tryMp3directcut, then!
You're welcome! :)
You should perhaps thank me once you manage to get directcut to work though... ;D ;D ;D
[What you generally have to do:
1. open file in program,
2. click "I<" (this will send the cursor to the beginning of the file),
3. click "set begin",
4. find the point where you want the first new file to end,
5. click "set end",
6. you will notice that the window with "Selection" will show you the start point, end point, and total length of your selection,
7. from "File" menu select "Save selection",
8. select the location where you want the new file to be saved and type in a name for it (eg. Wagner1) - click "Save" - you now have the first of two file,
9. click ">>..I" (if you hover over that button it will say "go to end of selection"),
10. click "set begin" (this way your new selection will start exactly where the previous one ended),
11. click ">I",
12. click "set end",
13. from "File" menu select "Save selection",
14. select a location for your new file and give it a name (eg. Wagner2), click "Save",
15. You're done: you now have two files, the second ending where the first left off.]
[If you have any problems (esp. with point 4 above), let me know.]
Thanks for the detailed instructions, Maciek! You know me quite well: I did download the program, was able to import the file, but of course got to a standstill, so nothing came out of my efforts. Now I'll try again, and with your help I shoul be able to go a few steps further. I might even succeed :D
It worked - not exactly as you detailed it(*), but I was able to use a 'split the file' command that worked once I selected the splitting moment. From then on, it was 'save file', and then I could burn them. Phewwwww ???

Pictures in your sig are a snap, John. Post it on a host, copy the img link from them, paste it in your sig edit block. However, I don't know if the gif will be animated or not. I tried one in my avatar quite a while back and ran into the same thing you did. I think that part kills the animation. But the sig part might not do. Worth a try. :)

Urgh.
It would be a shame to let 2 or 3 threads spoil your overall enjoyment of the forum. Just click what interests you, even if sometimes the temptation is too strong ;)
Alternatively, you can always go to the Diner page first, read only the 2 or 3 threads that really do interest you (e.g. reading, eating, movie watched) then click "Mark Read" at the top left within the Diner. It will clear the political ones (and the "words" one which can be an acquired taste), then you can happily move back to the overall Unread posts, with only the musical threads left to enjoy 8)

These threads exist because some people have nothing better to do. Having nothing better to do accounts for a large fraction of human activity.

I'm not criticizing the threads or those who enjoy them, even though they don't appeal to me. But there are now so many of them, they tend to bury all the other subjects. Another non-music forum I sometimes frequent has a separate child board for them and other similar games (and that's where some unabashedly admit that they intentionally post to boost the website post count.)

Hello. I've been a (not very active) member for a few years but have decided to up the ante.
I have two problems which I'd be very grateful to have help with.
The first is that my husband applied to become a member a few days ago but has not had a confirmatory email and in the meantime two new people have joined.
The second is that I have pm-ed two 'stalwart' members and ticked the box that said the letter should be in my outbox - but I can't locate my outbox. How do you find it?
Sorry if the answers to these difficulties are staring me in the face. I am not very good at the technical stuff.
Thanks if you can help me. I'd love it if my husband could share the GMG culture and post in the music threads including ones I've put up myself.

Hi Rosalba! (One of the moderators here.) After he sets up an account, I'm not sure the software will confirm his email. What I can tell you: when someone joins, their initial post has to be approved by one of the 4 moderators. (It helps keep out bots and spam.) People usually make their initial post in the "Introductions" section, but that's just a suggestion, not a requirement.
Anyway, after that, people are home free. See if that helps, but if not, we'll figure it out. And welcome back. :)

The problem is that this embeds the video using flash, which many modern browsers (including the one I use) does not support. I would prefer it if people used your simple text method, which at least creates a link I can follow.

I used to search for previous post by myself (or specific other members) by filling in a name after "by user". Doesn't work anymore - just a blank result.
Ditto for the "Show results as messages" or "Search in topic subjects only" options.
What works is a general search. To the extent it "worked" before: pretty random "selected" results. For instance a reply to a post shows up, but not the original post. But that is nothing new, the other features were a way to work around that and force the search to be more focused.
@Que and
@Dungeon Master I had some mixed results when I tried searching by a specific poster. I suspect that if you don't type in enough letters that that can be a problem. When I just typed in three letters it didn't bring up any results; however, when I typed in longer words results appeared.
For example, when I typed Vaughan Williams and vandermolen: bingo! When I typed in cat vet nothing came up even though he had posted on May 23, 2023 "This morning I was ordered to take our cat to the vet to get his nails clipped...."

Search for Bach on the listening thread and nothing shows up. Nothing shows up for Chopin in the Chopin thread . . .
OK, I think this must a per-user bug.
When I search for Bach on the "What are you listening 2" thread, I get 191 pages worth of results. I get 14 pages of results when searching for Chopin on the Chopin topic.

It does work if you select the search "entire forum" but not "this topic", which would be so much more convenient since I mostly search for my own posts in the listening thread. A general search limited to my own posts doesn't work anymore as well....
Ah, yes - that's a bug. It pops one over to a member's screen. Blast! :-\
Interesting...I just tried an experiment. Depending upon how I search, I can either get results or not.
When trying to search within a specific thread (in this case the one devoted to S. Barber), if I typed in Knoxville using the search engine at the top right and tried to search within that thread, I had no results. If, on the other hand, I tried the search using the big orange button on the left hand side (by the orange Home key), I was able to get results (I narrowed it down to searching in the composer area and also added Barber into the keyword search).

The problem is to search for "Rubsam" in just the organ thread.
@premont
Search: general organ thread rübsam gmg

That' certainly a step in the right direction. But if I search
haydn's house thread baryton gmgI get an invitation to search
haydn's house thread baryton gmg site:www.good-music-guide.comand then I only get three hits in the Haydn's Haus thread. So not very satisfactory really if there are more than three pages mentioning "baryton".

If you search:
baryton trios site:www.good-music-guide.com I think you get a few more. But if there are more (I don't know if this is the case) it's of course unsatisfying.

I have "Latest posts of Drogulus" bookmarked on my browsers. I occasionally find it useful, and it goes all the way back to August, 2007.
Can anyone tell me why the images I post are displayed twice? Once in the text of the post then there's a horizontal line, the images are displayed a second time with their title size and a link. I'm not seeing this on others posts which contain images.
Another question is when I inadvertently clicked on my name I was taken to a screen which displays the email address I used when I signed up. Can everyone see my address, I'd rather not!

The images are posted twice because that's how the forum software works. If you attach an image and
don't click "Insert", the image should only appear below the line. Many users, such as myself, use the add image button (above the text editing box, to the right of the YouTube button) to insert images by URL. This allows us to put images from Amazon or Discogs, etc. directly into our posts.
Your email address should not be visible to regular members. It is, however, visible to moderators.

I can't see it as a normal member.
Thank you both!
Where is the icon for inserting jpeg fotos? Thanks.

It's at the bottom of the reply text box ("Click or drag files here to attach them"). If you are in "Quick Reply" the option isn't available; click "Preview" to change modes.

Thank you. How can I do the same in a private message I want to send?

I'm not sure. That may not be possible with this forum software.
You could use the photo logo next to the YouTube button if the photo is online with a URL. I would suggest uploading a photo to a free service like imgur and then using the link that way.
