Posted in the Ugly Cover thread (see there why), but posted here simply and solely for the cat positioned dead center.

Quote from: Pohjolas Daughter on January 06, 2023, 12:06:31 PMYes, the cat is looking rather "freaked out"!

The look on Mary's face and her body posture (including hands) made me think that she's about to say "Oh, goodie!" and clap her hands.

Probably more in line with the painter's real intention...

I took Tenille my Russian Blue, to the vet on Jan. 4th because she'd been drinking and urinating a lot more than usual. The diagnosis was diabetes, so I've had to give her insulin injections twice daily since the 6th. If only I could grow a third hand, or just inject myself.  ;D

Very sorry to hear that.  I, too, had a diabetic cat and had to give her injections.  Do you have pet insurance?  Insulin, when I had to buy it at least, was horribly expensive.

No, no insurance. And it's $70.34 for a small bottle, but by my calculations that should be 200 doses/100 days, so it's not so bad.

I found this story to be very touching and sweet (and funny at times too):

I like the sound of this ballet:

In 1927 Diaghilev's company produced the ballet La Chatte (The Cat) with music by Sauguet, which premiered in Monte Carlo on April 30. The story is about a young man who falls in love with a cat, which assumes a human form through the intervention of Aphrodite. As they make love, the cat-woman sees a mouse and cannot resist chasing it, whereupon she changes back into a cat. The work was choreographed by the young George Balanchine.[3]

I'll have to check into that more.  I believe that I read that there's actual footage of that ballet?

Thanks. Alas, despite several trips to the vet, and adjustments to her treatment, she got worse and worse, and we finally decided to euthanize her on Feb. 20th.

My condolences for Tenille, and as a slight counterweight, this book

Kafka had a guy waking up in Prague and discovering he's a roach. This version has a woman waking up in Paris and discovering she is a cat.

Which book is that?  I tried to view the image and no luck.
