Quote from: krummholz on March 17, 2023, 09:01:54 AMWe lost power for about 90 minutes on Tuesday. There was no wind, it was due to the weight of about 35 cm of heavy, wet snow (at that point) on branches and power lines. The owner of the local deli told me that her power went out immediately after a nearby power transformer exploded.

But it didn't stop snowing... in the end we received about half a meter in all, over roughly 36 hours. Since the mercifully brief Tuesday outage, our power has been steady.
That's a lot of snow!  Glad that the power didn't stay out for very long.

I went on a moderately long walk yesterday while doing some errands and noticed a number of large tree branches that had come down--including one which whilst the tree was in the strip next to the road, the branch came down on a homeowner's chain link fence.  The fence was the worse for the wear.  :(

I'm hoping March will indeed go out like a lamb. It's likely to be a soggy lamb, though.

In Vermont, March pretty much always goes out like it comes in... like a lion.

Yep, I was just shopping with a friend; he was looking for some sort of mud boots (to use to go to his woodpile).  Alas they didn't have his size in the pair that he was interested in.  Some of those boots get quite pricey!

Ah, but you also have that fifth season:  "Mud Season".  :)  ;)

Yep! But that typically overlaps with winter, and then continues well into (astronomical) Spring. :)

Well, our delayed spring is delayed further.

Colorado low hitting us, antipating between 10-20 cms of snow and blizzard conditions today for southern Manitoba.  >:D

Brr!

Meanwhile here, temps suddenly shot way up yesterday.  Today should be much cooler and cloudier.

Just looked out the window and I guess some of it arrived early overnight.  :D

Glad I didn't drain the gasoline from the snow blower yet.  :-\

Yeah, not here.  It looks like I should be wrapping Christmas gifts and glazing the ham!

Yep!  And I also meant "how" vs. "who"!  :-[

How much snow have you received so far Ray?

Yes everything is coming back nice and green.  I've noticed my trees have as well... except my wayward tree.  I might post on the green thumb thread.

16 cm yesterday and a couple more so far. Looks like it has stopped for the time being.

So, roughly 6 1/2 inches so far it seems.  Is it the light and fluffy kind or wet and heavy?

Nice!  Sadly a couple of my butterfly bushes were hit hard--one in particular due to our last snowstorm (and hopefully final one for this spring).  I cut them way back.  In my experience, they are normally pretty good about sending up new growth.  Checking yesterday, in fact, I saw a fair bit at the base of one.  After the last storm, about a third of the pretty tall bush was plastered across the sidewalk.  :(

I also fed them too.

Seems to be on the light and fluffy side.
