What happened to @OrchestralNut? He deleted his account.
Part of the tragedy of the Palestinians is that they have essentially no international support for a good reason: they've no wealth, they've no power, so they've no rights.

One of the people who was cranky about pictures being deleted. In fact talked about leaving a couple of days ago.

Deleting the cover of a Warner Classics album is I think a bit of a symbolic tipping point.

Hard to believe that that issue could open such a can of worms.

I very much doubt the issue is the picture as such. But here is what Orchestral Nut said:

QuoteInterestingly, I might be leaving for the exact opposite reason.  I think the excessive and heavy handed prudishness is absolutely ridiculous and overboard.

I'm very sorry to see OrchestraNut go, and hope he will reconsider and return.

I hope that our new moderators take note, the actions they take can alienate forum members, even members who are not directly involved.

Ray, please, if you read this, come back! It's not worth it, my friend!

According to the absolutely trustworthy testimony of a former moderator, the most belligerent, uncivil and unpleasant thread ever was one dealing with Haydn's string quartets , of all subject matters--- it ended up in some of nastiest ad hominem I ever read, not only here but on the entire internet; I know because the moderator saved some specimens and was kind enough to share them with me.  ;D

It's certainly not worth it, I think. There is no moral policing here, even though some actually advocate it.

I once briefly joined CMG, when GMG was out for the 1st time since I became a member. I left within days after one of the moderators pontificated about the Netherlands being overrun by Muslim hordes, with drug addicts roaming the streets and the elderly euthanised en masse. I ran away as fast as my virtual legs could carry me...

I said it before and I say it now again: imho GMG is the best of its kind, despite occasional, and ultimately minor, bugs. That fully grown-up and educated, even widely cultured, adults sometimes behave like spoiled children (and this includes me, in spades) it's human nature, after all. And it's encouraging to notice that most members who have left in a fit of rage have eventually returned. Myself, I'll only leave GMG the day I'll die, and instruct my relatives to post an obituary here.  :D

I am happy to see, that OrchestralNut still visits GMG as the guest Brahmsian. Hopefully we can persuade him to return fully.

Yes, this. Come on, Ray, please return fully.

That's not how I interpret that. I think when OrchestralNut created his account he chose the name Brahmsian. When he later changed the name (more than once, I think) Brahmsian remained the underlying name even though his profile contained information to the effect that a new name should be substituted. When he deleted his account his old posts defaulted to the original name.

You may of course be right. I didn't recall his original username. But still I hope he can be persuaded to return. It seems to me that this NSFW case has been a tempest in a teacup.

One thing I have learned about this place is that it is almost always tempests in teacups.  ;D

Yes on retrospect --- on the spot and in the heat of the moment it's Sturm und Drang alright. ;D

A test I like to apply is I imagine someone in real life saying, "Why are you typing?" And then I imagine having to explain "Here is what is happening on the internet..."  ;D

I am impressed at the fact that all those whose casual sexism created this problem in the first place are now so desperately keen to regard the matter as something that should all just be swept past and treated as of no consequence. Janus would be feeling entirely at home, right about now.
