Title: Pingoud's Prophet.
Post by: vandermolen on April 13, 2014, 12:53:51 PM
Anyone else here like the music of this Finnish composer? Ernest Pingoud (1887-1942) came to a rather sad end, under a train in Helsinki. I rather like the CD of powerful orchestral tone poems. Scriabin, R. Strauss, Wagner, Rachmaninov, Cyril Scott and Sibelius come to mind at times. There is however a dark, craggy poetry about the music, which I find appealing. The orchestration is strikingly dramatic and the performances on the Ondine CD seem very good too. 'Prophet'(1921) and 'Song of Space'(1931/38)were highlights for me:
