Streaming on the BBC:

The first of the only two series of Early Doors (2003-2004) revolving around the landlord of "The Grapes" pub, in Stockport (Greater Manchester) and his motley crew of punters and relatives... and two slightly rogue coppers  ;D

Those series are co-written by Craig Cash and Phil Mealy who also co-wrote Episodes of The Royle Family prior to this (with the late Caroline Aherne).

Thanks to its cult status, Early Doors also had a very successful run as a play 4 years ago or so with most of the original cast on stage. I was lucky to see the play in 2018, actually without knowing anything about the TV Series at the time and absolutely loved it. Now that it has been made available by the BBC, I find myself howling and loving the TV series even more!!

The White Princess followed by the White Queen (*watched them in reverse order but still working out fine).  They are some sort of co-production with the BBC and have been watching them on Hulu.  They are based on several books by Philippa Gregory about the battles and times of the War of the Roses.  A nice distraction whilst getting over a cold.

*I'm about halfway through the White Queen

Late to the party, first series of Happy Valley done.

Last episode of the third and final series transmitted last night. Doing our best with difficulty to avoid the outcome as Happy Valley has created some noise in the UK press.   :-X
You must have a very good opinion of yourself to write a symphony - John Ireland.

I opened the door people rushed through and I was left holding the knob - Bo Diddley.

I'm rewatching The Assets, about the hunt for a CIA mole which led to the unmasking of Aldrich Ames.

Ames is played by Paul Rhys, and he is very good.

Apparently the series was a flop. It ran on an American broadcast network, so it was delivered to an audience that isn't usually presented with material that aspires to quality. I haven't watched network TV in many years, but from the commercials for shows I get the idea that network programmers think the target audience is imbecilic. This show didn't have a chance.

It's not a great show, just a good one. Rhys is outstanding and so are some of the supporting players.

Resuming The Crown after a few months' hiatus, now that the real Royals have stopped getting in the way  ;D

Two thirds of the way in season 4 - Mountbatten's death, Thatcher at No.10, Charles getting married, Diana v Camilla, the Australian tour, etc etc. As good as ever.

Whilst obviously heavily dramatized and made up in the actual encounter with the Queen, the episode about the 1982 Buckingham Palace intruder Michael Fagan felt like a strong social portrayal of the Thatcher early years. Gillian Anderson really made our skins crawl as Maggie so she must be doing something right.

I am studying Japanese. Since most Japanese shows are unwatchably bad, I started watching this Korean show, dubbed into Japanese

It's a dramedy about an autistic lawyer. I can see why Koreans have come to dominate Asian screens. They can really do melodrama. Quite fun and engaging, and occasionally moving.
It's on Netflix here in Japan. Don't know if its available to western viewers.
It's all good...

It's on Netflix in the US, too.  I've only watched the first episode, and it was charming.

The only other Japanese show I've watched (except for Ultraman as a kid) is Ms. Sherlock, which is entertaining enough.

Even though I've really just got started on the original series (just about to close out the first season) I've started the late 80's revival of Mission: Impossible, largely for QC of the DVDs. Got a kick out of John de Lancie being the villain in the opener.

Just finished the first two seasons of Happy Valley.  Alas, I don't believe that I'll be able to watch the final season of it until later on in the year (May something-or-other according to one site; and I can't remember which one!).

Will be rather hard to get the character of that *horrible guy out of my brain (at least initially I suspect) when I do get around to watching Grantchester.

Maybe a whisky-drinking vicar who doesn't shy away from the occasional womanizing and regularly plays backgammon over some pints with his cop friend would be more likable to you.  :D

I've been slowly making my way through BB for the last year or so (along with Madam Secretary and now the 4th season of The Handmaid's Tale). Definitely one of the darkest, most violent series I've ever seen (as is THT), but oh boy, is it good! Just finished Season 4 last night... what a season finale that was!

Hi PD, trust you are well.

A scene that made my skin crawl! It was the soft velvet voice that did it.

Yep!  And also "loved" how his character blamed everything that bad that had happened to him on the police officer!  >:(  Sure [She said sarcastically.]!

Alas, pressure in one of my ears still hasn't gone away (a bit better when first waking up then it feels like half of my head is under the ocean).  Done with antibiotics and hoping that this will clear up on its own soon.  If not, I'll make an appointment with an ENT.  Reason why I haven't been listening to much music lately.  Fingers crossed here!  And thank you for asking Lol!  :)

p.s.  Wonder whether or not I could watch the third season if I subscribed to the BBC iPlayer?  Will check into it later.

Bad luck with your ear infection - that sounds horrible...... Series 3 is worth the wait.  Very compelling viewing - Sarah Lancashire's acting is genuinely superb.  I worked on a show many years ago with one of the secondary characters - the very great Con O'Neill who plays Neill.  Very odd seeing Con - who I knew as a young man here playing an older middle-aged character.  Clearly I am just in self-denial about getting older myself!!

I remember enjoying MS (though it was some years ago).  Been tempted to watch The Handmaid's Tale (read the [excellent] book by Margaret Atwood many, many moons ago).  Sounds like you are enjoying it?  Haven't (at least yet) tried any of the Breaking Bad series...will have to look into it.

Thanks!  I think that it was a sinus infection; thankfully, the pressure on my ear is (knock on wood) gone, but it feels like ummm...do you remember what it's like to get water in your ear whilst swimming and it taking a while for that feeling to go away--and your hearing to get back to normal? I'll probably call my GP tomorrow about it (again).

It's interesting that you brought up Con O'Neill as I instantly thought that he looked and sounded familiar.  Looked up who had played that character and am wondering what else I might have seen him perform in?  Which show did you work on with him?  And like you, was really impressed by Sarah Lancashire's performances over the first two seasons.  Some years ago, I watched the series with her in it set in Nova Scotia...am blanking out the name of it at the moment.

I read the book decades ago as well! Agree that it was excellent. Yes, I've been enjoying the series as well (maybe "enjoy" isn't quite right given how dark the story is, but it's gripping and moving and very disturbing) - and MA is one of the executive producers, so it has her imprimatur and is faithful to her vision.

And PD, I hope your ear infection goes away soon! I've had a couple of bouts of the "serous" kind over the last few years (fluid behind the drum) - did not try antibiotics, but a 5-day course of low-dose prednisone took care of it both times.
