I love how the LSO cellists just look on in awe at the beginning. When this piece was first performed, people just thought it was impossibly difficult, when in reality its not really any more difficult than say the Dvorak concerto (so still not a mean feat!). Just searing intensity in a completely revolutionary style of cello playing. Astonishing.
