BBC's HAPPY VALLEY

2nd week into the final Season 3.

As gripping and brilliant cast and acting as the previous 2 series.

Missed previous series, Olivier. Sarah Lancashire is an outstanding actress.
You must have a very good opinion of yourself to write a symphony - John Ireland.

I opened the door people rushed through and I was left holding the knob - Bo Diddley.

She really is, Lol. I'll need to seek out other series she's been in.

Happy Valley is worth catching up on. It is way up there with Peaky Blinders and Line of Duty...if not actually better than the latter!!

Sort of lost interest here in Yellowstone, so will have to find something else to watch.  Will see if I can get ahold of Season One of La Porta Rossa from a local library.

PD

We have another two to go out of twelve of the first series of La Porta Rossa. Another twelve of a second series is waiting for us and I have read they are embarking on a third! Completely different then The Bridge and The Killing which I know you enjoyed but The Red Door is very much as good.

I'll bear Red Door in mind, thank you (found it on C4). I loved The Bridge even if I only saw season 1 & 2. I have never watched The Killing, something I'll have to remedy to at some point.

We watched the start of The Light in the Hall on Channel 4 as well (https://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-light-in-the-hall) about a mother facing the release of her daughter's murderer 18 years on in a small Welsh village, with him holding back (or not remembering) where her body is. A friend of the victim, now journalist, decides to return home and investigate the story further. A slow burning first episode but we'll see.

Have you watched Stonehouse Olivier? I'm in two minds, not sure the portrayal of John Stonehouse is an accurate one and an undercurrent of comedy which didn't work for me. The most interesting character was Harold Wilson. A wasted opportunity to recount an incredible true story.

Finishing Season 1, moving on to Season 2. Fun to see these two together, and I love an investigation.

The second season of Rise of Empires: Ottoman, subtitled Mehmet vs Vlad.  That's right!  For the second season, the story focuses on Mehmet the Conqueror subduing Vlad Dracula!  Ooooh boy!  The action flick portions have the same too smooth CGI layered on top of some nice location shoots as the first season, as well as Tywin Lannister narration and interviews with various academics covering the events in the documentary portions.  The action flick makes sure to show lots of impaled folks and there's even a detailed voice over of how it was done.  Fortunately, the whole thing is presented in English, with only some academics needing translation.  (Truth to tell, I would have preferred proper historical languages with subtitles.)  It's a nice enough diversion, and Cem Yigit Uzümoglu is good enough as Mehmet and Daniel Nuta is suitably over the top as Vlad.  Both are pretty enough and have enough screen presence that they could probably play a sleek, young Bond villain if the need arises.

It's nice to see a lavish-ish production of major happenings in exotic lands.  Maybe a series could be made about Timur.  Surely AMMC has profits sufficient to fund such a project.  Or maybe a show about Mansa Musa is possible.  The Keita family has money and friends.

Getting good and excited for "History of the World, Part II," coming this March on Hulu and starring Johnny Knoxville as Rasputin, Seth Rogen as Noah, plus Danny Devito, Quinta Brunson, Nick Kroll, Taika Waititi, Sarah Silverman, Josh Gad, Wanda Sykes, Zazie Beetz, Kumail Nanjiani, and the man himself, Mel Brooks.

Yep.  I'll try to revisit the movie before watching.  The Lord Jehovah has given unto you these fifteen... Oy... ten! TEN Commandments! For all to obey!

Last few months, we've been intermittently watching 'vet series' mainly where National Geographic is available - finished up Dr. Oakley (up in the Yukon) and the Critter Fixers (rural Georgia) - about to start Season 3 of Dr. Pol (rural Michigan). If you're into animals and pets of all kinds (and BIG animals like cows and horses), then worth catching one of these shows.  Dave :)

;D  Timur for sure: I like to see a mountain of skulls portrayed on screen.

Yes, Rise of Empires: Ottoman, Season 2 was decent.

That's bizzare.  I would think people who have an interest in the Timurid Empire would want to see a stylized reconstruction of Samarkand, or Herat when it was called the Pearl of Khorasan.

Gave another shot at the second season of Yellowstone; glad that I did!  Besides the storyline, I've really been enjoying listening to new (to me anyway) contemporary singer-songwriters.  Also, interesting to find out that Kevin Costner is in a band (and sounds like they've done well in terms of album ratings for at least some of theirs).  It's called "Kevin Costner and Modern West".

Agreed... I have to admit, I had given up hope of ever seeing a Part II long, long ago.  Not sure what to expect, but I'll definitely try it with interest...
The man that hath no music in himself,
Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds,
Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils.
The motions of his spirit are dull as night,
And his affections dark as Erebus.
Let no such man be trusted.

Even when Mel is riffing (not saying this will be the case here) I enjoy his work.
