Title: Louis Andriessen dead
Post by: Herman on July 01, 2021, 04:31:57 AM
This week Louis Andriessen (1939 - 2021) died.

He hadn't been well, due to dementia.

December 2020, his last orchestral piece, 'May', was premiered, his last beautiful gasp.

Same week as Fred Rzewski. And by chance I managed to find this wonderful old recording, very well transferred by an amateur and available for no money at all here

RIP, sad news. My thoughts exactly (re. emphasis added passage). Thanks for posting the recording, will definitely listen (familiar with both pieces, once saw a memorable live Coming Together).

He died this morning (thursday).

I remember I used to see him occassionally near his home on the canal in Amsterdam.

I never saw him later than our time in Buffalo, but he and Charles were the highlights of my time languishing in Buffalo.

Andriessen and his wife, the violinist Monica Germino @ Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ in Amsterdam.

The scarf industry will never recover.

One of his valedictory works for the RCO, 'Mysteries', 2013
