@Madiel

I have not changed my stance, and the Guidelines have been in place since 2007. This is a music forum, for the discussion of music. Anything NSFW or not suitable for children should not be posted here, either as pictures or as discussion.

I don't personally have a problem with nudity, sex or titillation. I am not the morality police. But there are other parties that do take an interest. The terms of my server hosting does not allow a variety of content, including illegal activity and pornography. My hosting service can terminate myy account instantly if I violate their conditions. Google takes a big interest in the content of websites. Once a website is labelled as NSFW or containing anything pornographic, that website is subject to a Google search ranking hit. Many countries, including the European Union and Australia, will blacklist websites that contain illegal or pornographic content.

I admit I am not familiar with the exact post or image you mention. I understand that it is a commercially available disc cover. My server host and Google do not care. I have received many reports from both about content on GMG over the years. Mostly in the "Pictures I Like" thread, but also isolated disc covers that you and I would regard as artistic, or just risqué, but their automated digital screening functions label them as inappropriate content. I usually get a warning stating that a particular image must be removed within a certain time frame. If not removed, they can take further action. Ultimately, my hosting can be terminated.

I have spent over $10,000 of my own money on this forum since its inception. Its a labour of love. I ask that all members respect the Guidelines I put in place for the benefit of all users, and the ongoing future of the forum. As members please do not post images or start discussions that are inappropriate. Moderators have the powers to edit or remove such posts. Please respect their decisions.

Right, so it's the algorithms that are the morality police.

This explains a lot.

Witness the disaster that was tumblr when they introduced badly programmed algorithms. I seem to remember a Garfield comic was among the things labelled as porn.

EDIT: Yes. And illustrations from actual children's books.

Guys, am sorry for the foul language I used towards absolutelybaching but I had a fit of rage and could not control myself for a moment. Rest assured that rudeness is neither a Romanian nor a personal cultural norm.

Well Andrei,I never doubt that for a moment.

Yes. The question is what we do about it. And how we present what we're doing about it.

We understood that by how rapidly you deleted the post.  Hopefully AB will see that too in time.

Well, nothing has changed. I suggest we continue to discuss music. Do not post images or engage in discussions that are contrary to the guidelines of the forum. The same as we have been doing since 2007. Not rocket science.

At some point, I might write a mod where an image or text is hidden from view until the user clicks on the "reveal" label. Reddit and some other forums have systems like this in place.

It seems that some spoiler mods already exist: https://custom.simplemachines.org/index.php?action=mods;search=Spoiler

Well I am talking about what we do when we ARE discussing music and some stupid algorithm can't tell the difference between an album cover and porn.

Tumblr pulled their algorithm way, way back. Why? Because people pointed out the stupid things their algorithm was doing.

I think it's pretty clear I'm not advocating for ogling women, given that women are not even who I'm interested in ogling. Every time that you say we should discuss music, that just conveys that you haven't been reading any of my previous posts on this topic. My issue is not when these things cramps the ability of posters to comment on women, my concern is the repeated idea that this stuff is actually going to cramp people DISCUSSING MUSIC.

Meanwhile of course the Bible has more sex and violence in it than the kind of people who advocate this moral policing ever seem to notice. Worse than operas.

btw I totally needed that in the Star Trek thread (to avoid spoiling the latest finale)!  White text just doesn't cut it.

Yes that would be a good idea if some content is a problem. I might want to discuss  Hugues Dufourt's music based on Courbet's L'origine du monde. And I may want to discuss it with reference to the image. It would be nice to be able to show the image.

I've stayed out of the recent conflicts, simply because I don't want to get involved. I do think that our culture around NSFW or felt sensitivities is a bit wonky, however. I'm not arguing for greater or lesser liberalisation, particularly, but in Britain, at least, I am often left shaking my head at what is acceptable or otherwise. I can't hold a conversation at work where recently-contentious trigger warnings need to be given before discussing slavery or suicide for example, but I can be expected to watch an extremely explicit advert about menstruation showing falling blood clots on mainstream TV before the famed watershed with no warning whilst eating my evening meal.

Weird.
