Sure why not? I do not understand the problem.
Why? Who's bitching about it?
Topic: Should I post my purchases
Answer: YES!
Why not ???
Well there are some resentful PM's coming in, let me put it this way.
Should I post on this thread? . . . . . . . . or not? . . . . . . .

I asked for a straight answer D minor!
This does not help you know!
Of course you should, Harry. I could understand the complaint when you posted in the main purchase thread...that tended to push everyone else off the page ;D but now that you have your own thread for the big, multiple purchases, I don't see any problem.
Sarge
Yes.

I like seeing the covers of your purchases Harry. I can dream about being you. ;D
So, please, keep going my friend! ;)
Of course you should. ALthough I don't know half of the composers you buy ;D , your enthusiasm for new music is an inspiration for buyers with a more limited scope, like myself 0:)

Sure Harry.
I know I kid you a lot. But your postings are nice because it's like we can browse. You don't need to say a whole lot per post -- and you don't, you just put up the covers -- and it keeps things clean. Anyone here can see a lot of cds and start talking about them. It's better than going to Amazon and hoping to find something interesting. Your posts are of pretty off-to-the-corner stuff so it's interesting.
Yes.
You give interesting reports in the 'What are you listening to thread' when you get around to sampling your purchases, so it's nice to see what's coming up. A bit like previews at the cinema :).
Those who don't like it can sod off to another thread.

Haven't read all the other replies, but here's my 2ยข:
(1) Please don't post a bunch of "my purchases" posts in a short period of time. This pushes others posts off the page. Just modify an existing post. You could always keep a weekly log and paste that in at the end of the week.
(2) I don't like threads devoted to one person, but you're not the only one with his own vanity threads. I don't read them, but it just annoys me to see them in the unread list. Actually this annoys me more than (1).
I think you should send me all the CDs you buy and I will post them for you.
:)

He helps you and you help him! It's a win-win situation!
Well, in this thread only two negative reports, and the PM's of course.
Thanks for the positive input guys, that really means a lot to me.
One poster said something about a vanity thread.
I resent that vehemently.
It has nothing whatshowever to do with that.
I did not start my own purchase thread.
And furthermore I love to share my music with you guys.
It is as we are all sitting together listening to it.
Well I will continue then with posting them.
It made me happy to receive a lot of PM's this morning with good words.
Afterall I am a positive peace loving human being, and I am glad most of you are too!
Harry
Of course! It is much easier reading your posts with the beautiful covers than trying to keep up with new releases or looking through thousands of pages of catalogs!
I am also one unashamed to admit that I do occasional purchase CDs based on the beauty of the cover rather than interest in the music per se, especially when I know next to nothing about the composer or music. When it is a shot in the dark, it is always nice to know what even if the music is less than great, I am left with a beautiful looking cover on the jewelcase!

Harry,

Thanks, then I will certainly do that! :)
I have a great idea! In order to preserve Rob's bandwidth, why don't we all simply stop posting anything at all on GMG? That way he can simply pull down the dead forum and keep his hard earned cash. What do you say? And no, you don't even need to answer! Simply stop posting here and never return again if you agree (remember - just reading the forum takes up bandwidth too!). Hooray, we're all saved! I'm sure Rob will be so grateful - he surely must be annoyed out of his wits with all those people posting on GMG, while they could be out in the sun, getting a real life.
You can't fool me, Maciek: you're being ironic, aren't you?

People who don't like your cover parade can simply not look at that thread, that's what I do. Anyone that sends you angry pm's about this trivial issue you should ignore because they must not be right in the head, to get so bent out of shape about something that they can easily ignore.

Not enormously, unless you have something interesting to say about what you're listening. Lists of things you've bought, lists of your ten favorite triangle players or your fifteen and 1/2 favorite symphonies written between 1847 and 1852, lists of what is on your CD player right now - these things interest me very little if at all.

Listings
as such are not that interesting. Although I occasionally see things on the Purchases thread I didn't know the existence of and catch my eye.
But these posts provide an opportunity for further personal exchange: why did you choose that recording?, how do you like it?, where did you get it?, what other recordings do you know of the work?, etc. etc. And I'm interested in what music/recordings occupies some posters I have personal contact with.
And is it tacky? Well,
if one assumes that people are posting their purchases just to show off, it would be.

Do you even listen to what people are saying to you? You asked for a straight answer to your question, and I gave you a straight answer. I am interested in people who have something to say. Not in people who just compile lists or boast about their endless acquisitiveness. For an example of a thread where people have something to say, I refer you to the following:

Perhaps this is why we have less arguing/fighting these days.

In the year that I have bothered to read your postings, I found nothing interesting at all.

I'll talk to you however I wish. If you have a problem with my behavior, refer it to a moderator.
I post less now to these forums than I used to 3-4 years ago. Anyone who has read some of my writings from then knows the kind of substance I contributed. I'm sure Luke Ottevanger and Bruce Hodges (a moderator) will support me on that score.

er, nothing wrong with harry (or anyone here) posting what he's/they've purchased but perhaps it could be limited to a single thread devoted to just that? i dont think we need individual members each with their own purchases thread...sort of redundant....and with regards to posting/sharing lists, like favorites etc. what the hell & why not...that can be fun...

James.
Well I think the question of posting or not is answered in the affirmative, so there is no need to continue this thread.
Thank you all for your fine contributions, but before this takes a direction that is not intended, I close herewith this thread.

I closed this thread Lis, and it is not nice of you posting again in it.

Karl did explain why didn't he?
And what if everybody wants their own thread? Other members might be purchasing huge lots of CDs but prefer not to publish them. I still am of the opinion that the thread at the top is sufficient to accommodate the lists of all purchases by everybody. ???
And this is my opinion - if it were not, I wouldn't express it! - I am not speaking in my capacity as moderator. :)
