The Diner / Re: What are you doing?
Last post by drogulus - Today at 09:21:15 AM

I bought QCOM and TSM instead of AMD. Still, AMD isn't entirely off my screen. I'd need to sell something, and since I don't like doing that I might have to use an "evil" filter. The way that works is you have a stock that strikes you as more than averagely evil, with the criteria being fairly unimportant. It's just a decider switch and nothing more.

Example: I have shares in KKR. There was a TV movie (Barbarians At The Gate) that depicted KKR in a negative light. The details don't matter. Henry Kravis might be a capitalist saint. What matters is it decides something, which is selling a stock. That's all there is to it.

In effect that means I will listen in my office sporadically, for it will take at least another month before all is ready in the listening room. That is if all goods arrive in time. So I know you are all sad that I am temporarily out of the thread duty....or not, but for those interested, now you know ;D  ;D  ;D
What all are you having done Harry?

Henri Sauguet: Symphony No.1 'Expiatoire'
A most underrated work:
#6
Hector Berlioz Symphonie fantastique, Op. 14/H 48, Wiener Symphoniker, Philippe Jordan
#7
Johann Nepomuk Hummel
Mass in D minor
Salve Regina

Susan Gritton, soprano
Pamela Helen Stephen, mezzo
Mark Padmore, tenor
Stephen Varcoe, baritone
Collegium Musicum - Richard Hickox

The more I listen to this Mass series, the more I am convinced that Hummel was his own man; no need for comparisons to contemporaries or predecessors.

I wonder if Hickox had plans to record the remaining Mass. I know he had a lot of irons in the fire with Chandos around his passing, some of which were picked up by others or dropped altogether.

Stenhammar

String Quartet #5 in C major
String Quartet in F minor

Stenhammar Quartet
(BIS)

Not really connecting with that cycle on this first visit.
Pleasant, but nothing more for now.

Quote from: Luke on Today at 03:10:34 AMNot saying they don't. But he's one that chooses to do so - and though they are small moments, I think you can hear that they are born of an overflow of expressive imperative and not just for scholarly reasons.

Sure, and in other composers too. I recognise what you are saying, but I do hear individuality and occasional impulsiveness there too.

Starting in the mid 70's I listened to an immense amount of Jarrett's albums. He was one of very few of my favourite musicians. It was solo improvisations like Köln Concerto, etc. and jazz line-ups like My Song or Byablue. I had dozens of his albums, more than of any other artist in any genre. When his performances of "serious" music started to appear, I was not a bit surprised. His interpretations bore little resemblance to the Jarrett I knew and loved. The complete, unrestricted freedom of his solo albums had been replaced by the rigid confines of composed music. My initial impressions of his Bach, Händel or Mozart were not particularly favourable, and it was only with time that I got used to a different Jarrett.
