The Diner / Alice Munro 1931-2024
Last post by Spotted Horses - Today at 07:28:19 PM
Alice Munro has died at age 92. I have read several of her short story collections and she was clearly one of the great masters of the genre.

The exposition of the Themes is entrusted to the solo voices used as an instrument. Soprano and Contralto interpret the melodies as if they were Sirens, supported by the large choir. The woodwinds: Flute, Clarinet and English Horn, intertwining with each other, perform all the solo parts. The Strings and Brass are the enveloping support of the entire arrangement. "Classical" percussion performs unusual rhythmic figures, for example in "Swing Fun". The Vibraphone in "Taste of Ireland" performs latin-jazz virtuosity contaminating the Irish world. This genre is also defined as "Classic Crossover" - a fusion between classical/operatic music and pop/jazz music.

Franco Serafini (Oleggio, 5 March 1958) is an Italian singer, keyboardist, composer, arranger and pianist.
He studies piano, organ and composition at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan.

Great Recordings and Reviews / Re: Bach Six Partitas
Last post by AnotherSpin - Today at 06:08:16 PM
Quote from: prĂ©mont on Today at 09:45:56 AMI found (ten years ago -  not listened to them since) her AoF and French suites solid but rather traditional and not that flexible / jazzy.

By comparison, Keith Jarrett's classical recordings don't seem particularly flexible or jazzy. Perhaps jazz pianists play classics to feel comfortable within a strict framework.
