Ernie, I think there are likely $4.99 eggs here, too, but I priced the organic eggs which the fam would charge me to buy. The 30 cents is an acceptable surcharge.

Myself, I have no quarrel with the $4.99 eggs, but one gladly honors the wishes of those nearest and dearest.

Similar to prices in Spain (for free range eggs).

Quote from: absolutelybaching on April 12, 2023, 09:12:34 AMIt would seem that egg prices are pretty important to a lot of people!
Yep!  I heard a program recently in which people had called in with their comments some of which were like "I used to eat eggs regularly.  They were a great and inexpensive source of protein, but now I'm having to find other sources of it."

Not so long ago, a brand of organic and free range eggs were on sale at a localish coop for $3.99/doz.  Even though I still had some in the fridge, I grabbed a dozen more whilst I was there.

As a side note, I stumbled across an article about Britain also feeling the after effects of the avian flu.  How many other countries were effected by it this past year?  Also, from another article/news story, I gleaned that apparently it wasn't an option in the US and that chicken egg raisers legally had to kill their flocks of chickens if even one bird was found with the flu.

TD,

This story was both sweet and sad to watch.  It's about a man in India who rescued a wild crane which had a broken leg and rehabbed it.  Surprisingly, the bird didn't fly away.  And now it's stuck in a zoo (which looks to me like a tiny enclosure--from what I can see of it anyway).  You can see in the second video the crane's reaction to seeing his human friend.

Are you currently in Japan?  If so, what kind of eggs do you buy and how much are they?

I'm in the USA now. I didn't see the price of eggs there. In general, everything is more expensive than North America and cheaper than Switzerland.

I've been noticing that around here (and reading some articles); however, I did find this article this morning regarding current trends in Japan (perhaps someone from the BBC was reading our comments yesterday?  ;)  ).

You put me in mind of the villain Vincent Price played as Adam West's foil.

I'm pretty sure that Egghead was my first exposure to Mr. Price. At least he's remembered for more than Frank Gorshin...

True. He's a great supporting role in Leave Her to Heaven (the latest I've seen him.) I do love Gorshin (small role)  in Terry Gilliam's Twelve Monkeys

I'm thinking about it. I want to maintain my choice about when and how I will die since I didn't about how I was born. I assume euthanasia is mostly illegal in most states in the USA (and other nations). I think law is more relaxed in Switzerland.

Oregon led the world in euthanasia, legalizing it at the end of the last century.  Last year the practice expanded so that death tourists can come and off themselves in the Beaver State if they suffer from a terminal illness.  There can be no doubt that the number of permissible conditions will expand.  The culture of death continues to grow and the industry continues to expand.  It is a sign of unstoppable civilizational progress.
