Yes, another blasted HIP thread! ;D
I'm looking to expand my Mendelssohn collection and would like some recommendations for some good period-performance recordings of his works, namely his orchestral works for starters. Any help would be greatly appreciated! ;)
Once you get to the string quartets, harmonia mundi has an acclaimed HIP cycle. They're extremely accessible, lovable works, though I haven't heard those specific performances.

String quartet is one of my favourite genres, I'll keep an eye out; thanks Brian.
Please have a look at this thread! :): HIP Romantics (http://www.good-music-guide.com/community/index.php/topic,159.0.html).
I posted there a HIP recording of the piano trios, and also the SQ's are mentioned, I believe.

Aye, I did! I thought Mendelssohn and Brahms deserved their own threads, though! I also didn't see much on either Mendelssohn or Brahms there... Alas, Que has spoken - so be it. 0:) Thanks for the link.
