Well, it's about some older guy (let's say, "Mr. Clueless") out of my family. His wife tells "yes, he's interested in Classical music sometimes" - well, I have never realized this. But this guy knows anything -at least he tells so.
Well, a couple of years ago I explained to him "It's Beethovens 3rd which is called 'Eroica'"- but he insisted on this being wrong. OK, I resigned and thought "it's alright, calm down, just Blahblah, this guy is not interested in music at all." He never appeared to be.
Last week, my wife had no time to go to concert with me. As it is an subscription, well, I asked several people, OK, now "Mr C." was the man.
Me: Schubert Sym9 (or 8 - "The Great") and Beethoven#7 is being played
Him: I'll go with you only if Beethoven is played!
(/me thinks: Oh, yeah, the clueless: BEETHOVEN GOOD! KARAJAN GOOD!)
Me: As I said, Beethoven 7. Along with Schubert. About the same style, not too modern...
Him: Then I'll come with you.
Him: Hmm. SCHUBERT IS SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM BEETHOVEN.
Me: Well, compared with, say, Shostakovich era... From their style I'd say they are comparable...
Him: SCHUBERT IS SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. COMPLETELY.
In my car, that evening...
(Shostakovich Sym. #4 is playing...)
HIM: Oh, what is this?
Me: Schubert Symphony No. 12
Him: Not what we listen to tonight?
Me: No no...
Huahahaa. :D :D :D :D :D :D
He should run for Congress, or get a job as a political analyst on network TV. (I know you're not a Yank, but from what I've seen of life this phenomenon is universal.)
Are you sure he doesn't post in this forum? ;)

Ack! You found me out!
Heh. I saw an episode of "Beauty and the Geek" recently, where a prospective Beauty was stumped by the question "Who wrote Beethoven's fifth?" Of course, being a geek, I was shouting at the screen "His fifth what?"

Yes. "No english, no candies."
A Romanian songwriter, accused of composing music which has no artistic merit whatsoever, retorted:
Some people like my music, though; not everybody listens to Schopenhauer.
It's 100% true and recorded on camera.
I've been told that a Greek pop singer once claimed (s)he liked all 32 of Beethoven symphonies (or was it that (s)he enjoyed reading Schubert?).
If you think music is bad for Bullshitters, just wait till you get into wine!

Cynic. ;D I'm
sure he/she must actually have said Chopin 'n Hauer, referring, of course, to the 'other' Viennese originator of a twelve tone technique.

:D
...and anyway, even if that's not quite right, the statement itself is correct - after all, when was the last time any of us listened to a nice bit of Schopenhauer? ;D )

"Why would it matter?" ;D

Then the guy should have said :
Hey, look, at least some people like my music while nobody listens to that old fart Schopenhauer!

Hey, share some of the credit (lol)!
Schopenhauer got any books on CD? Maybe read by Patrick Stewart?

If it's Beethoven's fifth biography, then it would. ;)

Argh! I didn't see the double meaning at first. I was completely clueless! Well I think I have a score to settle with eyesresist ;)
This thread is about documented clueless (relative term) trying to outvote the more knowing.

I didn't mean it, I swear! It was a generalised joke meant purely in fun.
