Sad, man. You need some old-time country blues. ;D
Does Polka belong here, or should I start a different thread? ???

Thank you, gentlemen. Some nice records here. I will list mine when I get home tonight.

Lyle Lovett, yay! :D
--Bruce
I tried getting into Lovett, like I try getting into a lot of people. :-\
Oh..well, if Lyle Lovett & kd lang count, throw in a couple of Ledbelly & BB, maybe Lucinda Williams, and how 'bout Elvis Costello's Almost Blue, and I'm home free.

Dude, we could totally hang. 8)
This is the toughest desert island list to compile. Too many categories, Dave! I've decided not to include any straight blues albums and just concentrate on country and folk...and only recordings from the 60s to the present. Older country and folk, contained in big box sets I treasure (like the Bear Family Records complete Carter Family, Louvin Brothers, Stanley Brothers, etc, and The Smithsonian Folkways Recordings) don't fit the desert island rules anyway. My list leans heavily towards the distaff side. My first girlfriend, the first girl I ever kissed (we were both six) was a hillbilly who lived in a trailer across the street. I think her voice imprinted itself on my libido ;D

Freakwater is a female duo (Catherine Irwin and Janet Bean) who sing like the Louvins. John Prine's "In Spite of Ourselves" is a duet album with some of the greatest female country vocalists (Emmylou Harris, Iris DeMent, Patty Loveless. Connie Smith, Lucinda Williams, etc).

Yes, for you, perhaps. But I'm sure I've left others scratching their heads. ;D
Some of the guys I like made sides when there were no albums, so I'll be posting compilations of those.

Damn, I actually thought long and hard about including that Cowboy Junkies album.
I also thought someone would call me out for my last selection, as I posted it as a joke to see if anyone was paying attention. :P

I've never heard of the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band...I thought it might be some white blues guy. I wasn't about to question your integrity :D You know, with a name like that, it could also be a country band...except he isn't wearing a cowboy hat ;D

Dave - I give up! ;D Just went through the 'Jazz Desert Island' recordings and ran out @ the beginning of the alphabet; now, I have so many of the ones already mentioned here - just too hard a choice for me? :)
But, I'll enjoy seeing the choices of others, likely to add to my already 'large' collection in this area! Dave :)

Ha! Indeed. Though I'm always interested in your views, Sarge.
I came this close to listing that Albert King album, and some Mississippi John Hurt (I have the 60s stuff). Nearly awesome taste, dude.

Tom Rush / Gold
James Taylor / Sweet Baby James
James Taylor / (Apple Album)
Dar Williams / Mortal City
Simon and Garfunkel / Bookends
Salamander Crossing / Bottleneck Dreams
Dan Fogelberg / Home Free
Wayfaring Strangers / Shifting Sands of Time
Joan Baez / Gone from Danger
Jay Ungar / Harvest Home
Won't include the blues on this list, because there's too many I'd like to include:
Woody Guthrie--Dust Bowl Ballads
Woody Guthrie--The Best of the War Years
Hank Williams Sr--40 Greatest Hits
Hank Snow-RCA Country Legends
Buck Owens--The Best of, Vol 1
Johnny Cash--Live at Folsom Prison
Bob Dylan--Nashville Skyline
Bob Dylan--Blood on the Tracks
Merle Haggard--Back to the Barrooms
Hank III--Risin' Outlaw
Some cool stuff here, and some I haven't heard. To remedy that somewhat, I now own the Fairport Convention album that Rubio posted.
