Title: superoctave Ivan Rebroff
Post by: snyprrr on May 03, 2009, 11:10:21 PM
Anyone know who I'm talkin bout?

He sang folky Russian stuff and all I remember was when he was real down low and then he goes up to this note that is..well...it had that eerie, comical cow-y sound. He's pretty famous, was,....but the guy's range was just bonkers. Someone's gotta know.

You propably mean Rebroff, though he's not Russian.

Yes, I was thinking of him, too. And he was German.

Chaliapin looks cleanly shaven to me.  ;)

Also known as Hans Rolf Rippert.

I would check out Boris Christoff (Bulgarian), Alexander Kipnis (Ukranian) and real Russian basses like the mentioned Feodor Chaliapin, Mark Reizen and Alexander Pirogov.

And maybe this disc with low basses in Russian Orthodox music will appeal to you (Saisson Russe)

I used to have the Christoff Songs and Dances on EMI. Oh yea! Russian Bass!

but the Rebroff was just some humorous thing I remember years ago, college party stuff...I just couldn't remember the guy's name. BUT, hysterical nonetheless!
