This is to let people know of the existence of a new forum devoted to the discussion of art-music. It is mainly intended as a platform where enthusiastic amateurs, scholars, and professional musicians past and present can discuss in a relaxed and more or less systematic way all aspects of serious music.
The intention is to attract as large a membership as possible, since the more participants there are, with varying views, the livelier and more profitable will be the discussions.
Its special character comes from the fact that it has only four rules, but they are strictly enforced, so that a unique and serious atmosphere may always be relied upon:
- no bad language or unpleasant subjects;
- no reflections on other members - courtesy must come first;
- of course nothing illegal;
- members should try to stick to the subject of the thread in which they are posting - the idea is that each post adds something to what has already been said by others.
The forum has been in existence now for only a few weeks; any one who likes the sound of it is cordially invited to drop by. Its name is the "Art-Music Forum" and it may be found at the internet address
ArtMusic.smfforfree.com (http://artmusic.smfforfree.com).
Yay, a knew place for me troll. Thanks for the tip.

True...but "Sydney" has gotten no more traction here as a wanna-be guru than Corkin or that self-proclaimed Wagner expert, so maybe, like them, he will have more success being worshipped on a site he controls.
I run two forums of my own (sf/fantasy/horror/music and crime fiction/movies) and additionally on a daily basis, I visit a horror fiction forum, a rock and roll forum and this one. There there are the ten or so I visit less often. I cannot afford to add more. Sorry, Charlie. ;D

Perhaps because there are so few possessing the exquisitely sophisticated sensitivity necessary to truly appreciate the unparalleled beauty and artistry of P&M? ;)

Nah, we have a classical thread going but mostly talk about DA ROCK.
That's pretty ambitious; I've never seen more folders in a forum than that. What is art music again?

This looks like it could become a serious contender...

It has way too many individual boards to be user-friendly. I don't think users should have to wonder if a certain composer was active "before 1950" or "after 1950" when deciding where to post a topic.
Also, the inclusion of a board called "Music and Sexuality" makes me wonder if it's just a pet project on your part.
I agree about the boards, among other quibbles I'd have.
But no, it's nothing to do with me.

You should head over there, pronto! :)

No - we need Sean here to amuse us :D
I've always considered it rather tacky to link to one forum in another.
Considering some of the alternatives, one is grateful when Sean is merely tacky.
The fact is there's no really good art music forum on the internet.

You're soaking in it.
