Title: Eloquence label & Buywell
Post by: johnQpublic on June 09, 2007, 05:37:52 AM
I'd like thoughts about the following:

1) Can I buy items on the Eloquence label other than at Buywell?
2) How is Buywell to USA customers?
3) Are the specific discs that are indiginous to Buywell that I should consider getting?

I believe that the Eloquence CDs offered on the Buywell site are the Australian edition and Buywell is probably the easiest place to source them. You might also try www.chaosmusic.com.au as an alternative

I was waiting for some US customers to post their experiences ... but in their absence - I'm in the UK and have placed a number of orders with Buywell, mostly (but not exclusively) for Australian Eloquence titles.

I've found them as easy to deal with as any other well-run Internet supplier.  As far as I recall, the on-line ordering system quotes you in AU$ but also quotes you the equivalent in your chosen local currency.

I just checked the last order I placed with them:  order was shipped 8 days later, and received in the UK 4 days after that.

Shipping cost, for 2 disks, was AU$10.95 = about US$9.25 - which is not brilliant, but IMO acceptable considering the distance it has to travel (and compares well with certain *ahem* US suppliers...)

So if your issue is:  are they are a reputable and reliable supplier?  Yes they are.

If you have other, US-specific, concerns - someone else will have to address those.

mdt.co.uk seems to have started listing them, that said, I have bought from Buywell with no problems and reasonable shipping rates.

Occasionally the Australian Eloquence recordings show up at Amercan vendors, usally Arkivmusic gets a selection.  HB direct may also get some as well.  I find that if you order just the right number of albums, the Australian postal charges even out, but the label ceases to be a bargain, and falls within the lower midrange of cd prices.  What I particularly like about Buywell is that they let you suggest recordings to reissue that have gone oop.  If enough requests come in for a particular recording it eventually finds its way into the Eloquence catalog.  Unfortunately, Eloquence only reissues things from the Universal (Philips, Decca, London, DG, Polygram) catalog.  I wish there were the same type labels for the Sony-BMG and Warner catalogs.

I've used Buywell a few times, and I will be using them again.  Service is fine and prices are fine.  It was cheaper for me to buy the Kubelik Original Masters set from Australia than the US or Europe, for instance.

As to the specific Australian Eloquence titles, I've only bought a few, but I bought them from my local classical specialist.  (They get titles not even Arkiv gets sometimes.)  If you wait long enough, I'll bet that most of the Australian titles will appear in another guise.
