I'm coming to this work for the first time, written when Wagner was 19: it's pretty Mendelssohnian (even Gadeian?) and contained, Beethoven in very genial, uncommitted mood. The opening has that unexpected calculated selection of notes of his later work but overall it's another inauspicious effort before his brain went into warp drive in his middle years. Wagner's early music is interesting though, a mind looking around and making tentative gestures as only one of immense potential could make- uncertain and very nascent but distinguished by not just following given patterns.
