Title: Celibidache fans (or anybody else) help me out here.
Post by: PerfectWagnerite on June 16, 2007, 05:42:20 PM
So BRO has this CD set:

Bruckner, Symphonies 3 & 9. (Munich Philharmonic/ Celibidache. Rec. 9/14/91 & 10/4/81)
Add to cart | Price: $ 13.98 | 2 in set. | Country: ITALY | D/A code: Analogue | Code: ME 1053/4 | BRO Code: 127112 | Label: MEMORIES
Genre: Symphonies

Is this the same as the EMI Munich recordings?
Also I am not familiar with the Memories label? Is it a pirate label? What is the general sound quality like?

(or anybody else)

EMI Munich 9th has the recording date 10.09.1995

Check Berky's diskography, probably should have more details www.abruckner.com

Thanks.

Looks like they are two different recordings. I didn't know Celi. recorded the 9th so many times looking at the discography.

I'm not sure how often the 9th was recorded with his permission. I know that, aside from his DGG set, the "official" release was the posthumous EMI "Celibidache Edition." Peter Gutmann seems to have done a lot of research on Celibidache bootlegs, and there are a lot of them. For someone who "didn't record," there are a lot of his records - official and otherwise - out there.

I have 14 recordings of Celi conducting Bruckner but only one with the 9th, at Munich 1981 and it is on the Exclusive label, which is legal Italian company, but classified pirate in the rest of the world!

I have two of his 3rd, but both from Stuttgart and Exclusives, 1980 and 1981.

Doesn't help you much, does it? Sorry!  :(

The Memories label is pirate through and through...

I have that set as well as the EMI ones.  It's a while since I heard them, but I recall thinking them both superior to the performances on EMI.  Sound quality is fine IIRC.
