This theory has been around for many years but has not caught on in the west. Does it matter that much? Perhaps for those with vested interest?
How is the church going to collapse if they found that Jesus spent some time in India?
Mega churches are huge businesses. They have more important things to hide - like the amount of money they make. They couldn't care less about Jesus or where he spent time when he was younger. What they know is that if you get a large number of people in a room and tell them that they're not going to die, they will be willing to part with some significant portion of their income.
I attend only small churches, don't care for the mega experience.
If the theory is gaining territory, it could be an example of the current globalization also involving religious matters - inspiration from Eastern cultures etc. as a part of Christianity or at least the more scientific view of it. Such tendencies also involve the suggestion of the next pope as coming from a non-European country, for instance. There has been such synchretist ideas and theorizing before, of course, and various tendencies to unify various religions. But this could become one of the more popular ones. However it will no doubt happen slowly and the institutionalized church is usually not particularly speedy in absorbing evolving ideas.

The church as a true church, the house of God, has collapsed 2000 years ago, the church celebrates the rules they have set for themselves, church rules, not Gods rules, and they forgot the simple message of Christ to the world.

I agree. They've only kept the worst part of that simple message - "Either you believe what I have to say, or there's an eternal fire waiting for you" :)
