Hi everybody,
I'm glad to be back. I really want to stay part of this community. So I hope I get another chance. I will not make the same faults anymore. I won't come with ideas to improve and change GMG. I left this community a year ago or something, much things happened and I have healthier ideas now concerning certain things, so I expect this will have a positive effect on my contribution here.
I am aware that English is the language here. But people should know on the other side that members who don´t have english as their native language have a disadvantage. If there´s some understanding about this, this would be nice. As a consequence this internet community is dominated by english culture. Most members are people from english parts of the world. I am aware of this much better and of course I accept this. But what doesn´t matter much is where people are from (though I really love the US, and GB and Australia), but I just like to interact with people about music (and other stuff).
I hope there's understanding about all this. I have no hard feelings to anyone here. I like to be part of this community, so instead of being banned for good, I hope I am welcome again.
Henk
Thanks. :)
Welcome back, Henk....what are you spinning?
Of course, you're welcomed back, Henk! I look forward to reading your posts again.

Welcome back, Henk! May I ask, why did you leave in the first place?
I couldn't handle all the moderations and the motivation behind it. You're right, I was never banned, however it felt like this. I left myself, I felt too bad about things, so this was a good decision. I thought I would never join GMG again, I was ready with it, but suddenly these days I changed my mind.
Henk
Thanks all. It feels good to be reconnected. :)
Hello Henk! You won't know me as I joined only a few months ago, so it's nice to meet you.
Best Wishes,
Daniel
Hi Daniel! Nice to meet you, on this space, and read about you.

I'm glad you changed your mind, Henk. We need some familiar faces around here again.
Hello Henk. Another n00b here, wondering how Daniel forgot to ask whether you like Mahler or not... (he's a bit mad about him)
Yes, welcome back Henk! 8)
Hello, Henk. I started the last 'newbie' thread here, but I'm completely 'green', and have no idea of anything that may have gone on before, so happy to welcome another Dutch colleague.
Have to agree with somebody who said you guys usually speak English better than the natives !
Among others, I'm a fan of Diepenbrock, and am pleased now to recognise some of the other names from the Concertgebouw walls. Look forward to chatting.
Cheers. Clive.
Thanks Henk!

I have to dissapoint you :). I don't like Mahler, the music may be beautiful, but just doesn't satisfy me. I will try later again, I think I should know at least all his symphonies. In general I don't like late-romantic music.
Henk
Can be I try to talk a bit civilized, but native speakers are much more confident with what they say. They know what they say and how to express themselves. I have to find ways of expressing and I'm often not sure about it. Keeping it simple helps often for.
But I like to develop my english skills. It offers more possibilities.
Mind Daniel's hammer, Henk ; )

No. 3 for instance.
Henk, welcome back!
About a certain Gustav: my personal advice would be to start (again?) with symphonies 1 & 4, and also with the Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen.
Mind you, I know there are plenty of people who, like you, aren't happy with Mahler's long symphonies but really enjoy his Lieder.
Henk, just stay away from Mahler. :) If Mahler doesn't give you some kind of gratification and pleasure, then don't listen to him. It's really that simple. I almost went through Mahler phase several months ago, but I was only kidding myself. Mahler's music does absolutely nothing to me. I just can't listen to his music anymore. The length of the symphonies never bothered me, it's the general expression and emotion of the music that doesn't appeal to me. If we're discussing Austrian composers, give me Berg, Bruckner, or Schoenberg any day over Mahler.

Heh, for me the Mahler situation reminds me of the saying, "If a man is not a socialist by the time he is 20, he has no heart. If he is not a conservative by the time he is 40, he has no brain," except substituting "Mahlerian" for both ideological extremes. It's that in-between period that's tricky.

Sorry to divert your thread,
Henk. I agree with Marc's Mahler recommendations to you (and since you dislike Late Romantic, you should probably avoid Bernstein's later recordings). I recently discovered the Wunderhorn songs and they are a lot of fun.
But listen to what you like. There is enough music for everyone.
