Tough poll Thursday this week is:
Vote for your 3 favourite Shostakovich concerti!
My vote goes to: VC 1, CC 1 and PC2.
Too tough! I abstain.
Violin Concerto #1, Violin Concerto #2, and Cello Concerto #1

Why I named it the 'Tough Thursday Poll!'
Certainly is very tough, all the concerti are such brilliant, powerful pieces.

Violin Concerto #1, Violin Concerto #2, and Cello Concerto #1
Ditto. :)
Three is too many for only six choices, so I chose only Cello Concerto #1.

Tough poll Thursday this week is:
Not tough enough. You should have only given us one choice. Now that really would be tough >:D

I'll keep that thought in mind for next week's 'Tough Thursday' poll. :D If you want to be really tough on yourself, you could do what Greg did and only vote for one!
Which did you vote for, Sarge?
. . . no banana option?

Which did you vote for, Sarge?
Cello Concertos 1 & 2, and the First Piano Concerto.

VC 1, which is much my favorite that I can't vote for any of the others.
Maybe I can vote three times for one work instead?
Cello 1.
It's a shame he didn't try writing a horn concerto.

Interesting....
I could imagine Shostakovich writing a percussion concerto, especially in his later years. Or a viola concerto.

I suppose he had, if he had met the right hornist.

Well, there's that great little "percolating percussion" idea in the middle movement of the Fourth Symphony, which has later echoes in the Fifteenth Symphony, e.g.
And the scoring for the Fourteenth Symphony: strings and percussion.

Very true, Karl. He wrote so excellently for percussion! I bet all orchestral percussionists feel extremely excited when they see Shostakovich in their upcoming programme!
Violin Concerto No.1, Cello Concerto No.1 and Piano Concerto No.2 for me.

I took your advise and voted for VC2. ;D
I bow out of this one. I simply cannot choose. I love them all.

A viola concerto more than likely, but I'm not sure about one for percussion. I always thought he would have written a concerto for a woodwind intrument especially the clarinet.

I know it's not officially a concerto, but this version of the great Viola Sonata for viola and string orchestra has the feel of a concerto. I really enjoy this recording.
