Hello everyone!
I'm new to this forum and new to classical music.
I do like all kinds of music but my true love is Punk and Post-Punk.
I know it is a million miles away from Classical music but i've fallen for Classical music in a big way.
The reason for this is for the last 3 yrs my Grandsons favourite television programme is "The Little Einsteins".
The programme revolves around four children solving problems set around a Classical music theme.
Some of you might be aware of the T.V programme.
For the last 3 months i've listenened to Classic F.M radio station in my works bus that i drive all day and now i'm hooked!
As yet i only own one proper CD which is Tchaikovsky's "Ballet Suites" which contains "Swan Lake-Concert suite from the ballet,The Nutcracker-Concert suite from the ballet and The Sleeping Beauty-Highlights".
The CD is a Classic FM CD and the sound quality is brilliant.
The composer of the music on this CD is Herbert Von Karajan and is played by The Vienna Philharmonic.
I love this CD and i've also been listening to Bach's Brandenburg Concerto's and Vivaldi's Four Seasons too on Youtube.
These are the composers that have dragged me into the world of Classical music so far and i love it!
I hope to talk to you all over time and thanks for taking the time to read this introduction.
Sorry it's a bit long and drawn out.
Hi sheffmark! A punk and post-punk fan exploring classical - great! And welcome to GMG. Actually you will find a number of fans of punk here; many people here listen to all kinds of music. And many of them enjoy Tchaikovsky, Bach and Vivaldi, the three composers you've found.
Anyway, enjoy yourself - lots of music to hear, and there are many fine people here to help you get going.

Welcome! Sometime in the future, you will discover a composer called Gustav Mahler. Trust me, you will be amazed!!! :D
I love Tchaikovsky too! I highly recommend that you listen to the symphonies and tone poems if you have not so far.
Daniel
Welcome on the forum, I hope you will enjoy it, I really love Tchaikovsky and Karajan too :)

Welcome to the forum sheffmark! There is a huge amount of brilliant music for you to explore - I've listened to classical music for about four years, and I've really just found out how much great music there is.
Well, one of my three-year-old's favorite program is also Little Einstein! "Five! Four! Three! Two! One! Let's Go! We need YOU!"
Actually, classical can be very closely related to punk. I mean, there are lots of "classical music" that is wilder than punk, and influenced punk. Just visit the Stockhausen's Spaceship thread to find out! Ha!
Welcome!
(PS: United & Wednesday are tied for the automatic promotion spot. Wonder where you stand on that one...Well, never mind...)

Greetings, and welcome!
You should start a punk music thread, I bet there are more punk fans here than realized. :D
There probably is!! ;)
I remember Siouxsie and the Banshees used to come out on stage to Stravinskey's "The Rite Of Spring" whan they played live concerts!! ;)

That's awesome! 8)
It sure was!
Powerful classical music for a powerful Punk/post-punk live band!!
It just seemed to fit perfectly.
I've found this bit of footage of Siouxsie and the Banshees live in concert with Stravinsky's "The Rite Of Spring" as opening music just before they came on stage.
You dont have to watch all of it,just the first minute or so.

Thanks! I'm a longtime Siouxsie fan but had never seen this.

No problem, glad to be of help! :)
Even Punks/Post Punks appreciate great classical music.Myself included. :)
A "punk" with grandkids?
Doesn't that make you kinda ... Post-post punk? :P
And yes, 'serious' music is a long way from The Stooges.
I'm not a "Punk" as such now (I dont dress as one!!) but it's still music i listen to a hell of a lot!! ;)
It's music i've never tired of!! ;)
Welcome aboard! I hope you enjoy this forum and get something useful out of it. :)

Hi sheffmark. Greetings from Vienna, Austria. Welcome to the forum. (http://www.smilies.4-user.de/include/Musik/smilie_musik_064.gif)
An ideal event in Sheffield would be:
Opening: Rite of Spring
Followed by: A Punk Concert
Followed by: Snooker Championship Final O-Sullivan vs. Trump
Venue: Cucible! Ha!
Hello and welcome! 8)

Hello. Just remember that we were all at one time beginners, and needed to ask dull and pathetic questions. So ask away.

Well, most beginners don't have the comprehensive punk education enabling a head first dive into Le Sacre, so our friend here is way ahead of most!

Hello sheffmark.
I like punk too, but not post-punk, although pre-punk punk (New York Dolls, et al) does it for me too. I grew up with John Lydon, Jimmy Pursey and SLF as major idols and air song/guitar heroes...alas I am 46 now, and with my baldy head and fat wee belly would look perfectly stupid doing the pogo...so I air conduct instead.
Aren't you lucky to join GMG in your new Classical Music interest. Although controversy arises, you will find all kinds of Classical Music discussed and recommended here. If you're still uncertain, you can listen things up in Spotify or any other major streaming music provider to see if the GMG posts fit your reception of the music. It is a big exploration sheffmark (Mark?) and you are going to love it.
Stay, and enjoy. Its about time we had a poster from the Steel City. There are three major orchestras in Sheffield which are rarely pressed to CD, hard to understand how this can be given that Sheffield is one of Englands largest cities. Look forward to watching your adventure unfold.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!! :D
Another welcome to you, from a fellow newbie!
Many thanks! :)
I think we're going to like it here!! :D
