Ah, yes, that sounds like the sophisticated humor we all came to expect from that show!
(HH is one of a tiny handful of shows of which I've seen every episode. Which is pretty weird since I'm 23...)
Klemperer the Younger appeared at least once in a MET broadcast, as the jailer in Die Fledermaus.
IIRC, he started out as a musician, then switched to acting.
