Title: A belated introduction
Post by: Pat B on August 04, 2013, 05:24:01 PM
I've been posting here for a few months but haven't formally introduced myself yet.

Hi. I'm Pat.

I listen to music from all time periods from Medieval to current.

My background is in string music. Until recently my collection was heavy on symphonies and violin concerti, but now I am adding lots of chamber and keyboard music, and some vocal works.

My musical tastes are probably conservative by GMG standards. I listen to lots of Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, Bach, Dvořák, etc.
My collection doesn't get much more obscure than the likes of Biber and Ives.

I tend to prefer historically-informed / period instrument performances, but I'm not ideological about it. For me it's about performances being musically satisfying, not necessarily academically correct. I think it's great to have diverse options in recordings, even if not every option is to my taste.

That's all I've got for now.

Hi, Pat. Welcome to GMG. I appreciate the fact you aren't an ideologue. This is congruent with my own tastes. If you could stretch out to encompass Haydn, I would pronounce you very well rounded musically.... ;)

Hi Pat, and welcome. Hard to argue with any of the composers you mention! I also like HIP groups and recordings, though not exclusively. (Most of my listening is from the 20th and 21st centuries.)

Anyway, have a good time here.

LOL. I should have seen that coming.

Actually I am listening to more Haydn than before and won't pretend that's a coincidence.

Yeah, you're definitely a conservative listener, but that's okay there's a lot of them here on GMG. Welcome aboard!

Well, Pat, if you could just wait a little longer, and make this introduction a bit more belated than it is, then this may be the first introduction thread by someone who needs no introduction.

Welcome, belatedly!
