Just another fun, aimless poll! :D There's so many great symphonies written in this key, but if I had to choose one, it would be Tchaik 5. Apologies for putting Dvorak 9, Brahms 4 and Haydn 44 near the bottom; they only occurred to me after listing all those other obscure ones. ::) If you would like another one added to the list, don't be afraid to ask, but please vote for it if you are going to ask me to add it to the poll. :)
Shostakovich's Symphony No. 10 without a doubt in my mind and before I could even finish reading the other choices. :)
Do I really have to decide between Brahms and Shostakovich? :'(
depends, so no answer...
I voted for Brahms 4 and then realized Shosty's 10th was in E minor too. Crap. So hard.
1. Brahms 4
2. Shosty 10
3. Tchaikovsky 5
4. Rachmaninov 2
5. Thompson 2
(But Tchaikovsky 5 is by far my most listened to.)

Yes, you do! >:D :D It looks like you voted! Who did you go for this time? :)
Ha, actually I didn't vote. Must have been somebody else.
Mahler 7 over Brahms 4

I tried to use your vote, but it didn't take. It's the Shostakovich for me.
Obviously Brahms.
Of course, Shostakovich 10, though Brahms 4 is superb.
I haven't heard them all, so I won't vote. Just being fair, that's all. But I know that, if I had the option to change my vote at a later time, I would have gone for, as a sort of 'placeholder' vote, Brahms' 4th..., or Shosty 10... or RVW 6th. Or Tchaikovsky 5. Maybe even M7.
Barber's First Symphony is also in e minor, as is Bernstein's First Symphony. And RVW's Ninth (in fact it was the first symphony of his to necessitate a number since all the previous ones had been referred to primarily by key, but E minor had already been used in the Sixth). And Hindemith's Die Harmonie der Welt and possibly other well known 20th century symphonies i'm forgetting.
For me i suppose Haydn by default; the Brahms is always appealing but not one of his works i find myself returning to very often
Nah, I'm not going to choose one of DSCH 10, Brahms 4, Mahler 7, & Tchai 5th
Rimsky-Korsakov's 1st is E minor, too.
Rimsky-Korsakov 1 and VW 9 added. I'm ashamed of myself for forgetting these, especially the latter. :-[
Blast! I didn't see the Brahms and wasted my vote on Haydn. ;)
Since Brahms 4 is one of my Top 5 Symphonies (the others are Mahler 6, Nielsen 3, Sibelius 5 and Vaughan Williams 4), my vote has to go there.
Sarge
Dvorak 9, this was a tough one.

I almost voted for DSCH 10 but since my doppelganger had me covered, I voted for Dvorak! :D
Cannot choose just one.
BTW who voted for Braga Santos 4? Good man (or woman)! 8) That's an awesome piece!
It is a difficult choice among Tchaikovsky No.5, Mahler No.7 and Rachmaninov No.2. :-\

I say be cool and vote for Rach 2. 8) Poor Sergei needs a vote!

Very well. :D
So many of my favourites there, but of course it has to be Mahler 7 for me! :D Not that toooo much of it is in E Minor anyway.. ;)
Having to choose between Sibelius, Dvorak and Brahms I finally chose Brahms. Scherzo of that symphony is just overwhelming!
I voted for the Hanson Nordic, not because I think it's the best, but just to give it some exposure. :)
So many choices and all of them right! :)
Sibelius 1
Had to vote for ДШ X

It's leading in the poll. Not bad for a symphony with a pointless opening movement. :-X :D

It was perfectly designed to keep you off-guard. Seems like it worked on you as well!

DSCH is good at that. :)
Never saw this thread. Definitely VW No. 6 for me which is actually one of my favourite symphonies of all time.

That was my first thought!
Too many Platinum choices:
The Rach,
Dvorak,
Shostakovich,
Tchaikovsky, etc.
I am reminded - especially by the latter two - of the recordings which introduced me to the works.
Karajan's epic
Shostakovich Tenth with the Berlin Philharmonic, and
Koussevitzky's Tchaikovsky Fifth with of course the Boston Symphony.
O dear, I overlooked Brahms 4, so I voted for Haydn's 44.
