Remember Russian Symphony Month? And French Impressionism Month? And Shostakovich string quartet month? Any interest in doing another one of those? What topics would y'all be interested in?
For the poll options I just put in some categories of music that have popped up in the Polling Station forum recently, plus a couple random thoughts I had. Don't take 'em too seriously. :)
I think it's a great idea, Brian. I'm all for it.
Also, I was just thinking the other day it had been a while since GMG had a good blind listening comparison thread.
But I would certainly participate/contribute in all of them.
I like all the suggestions, esp. Diamond Dust Schus. I'm down.
My vote goes to Banana Month.
I'd be interested in any of those, so voted banana..

No I don't remember any of those. :)
17th century might be fun.
Mythic String Quartet Month
May I suggest Music Inspired by Nature Month?

Mythic String Quartet Month
Or perhaps like this:
November: Non-SQ Chamber Month
December: Mythic String Quartet Month

Be careful what you wish for. It's a great idea, but I'm already reaching for the Alvin Lucier, David Dunn, John Cage, Eric La Casa, etc etc etc
That is actually a great idea! It's
bananas.

A thread beckons ;D......
I say we devote the month of November to Soviet music. So listeners dust off your Mosolov and Shebalin recordings, it's go time!!!

Nice idea! Didn't know you were familiar with Shebalin's music, John-he's a very fine composer. Someone needs to reissue those Olympia recordings of his music, and fast!

Sure, yeah, I'm somewhat familiar with Shebalin's music. I've got one of those Olympia recordings of his
Symphonies 1 & 3 (I think?) somewhere in one of my many piles. :)

Do field recordings count as "music inspired by nature"? >_>

Knowing our gang, they'll include everything they can think of. Pines of Rome? Pine trees are nature, and there are bird calls! Mahler symphonies? Cows wear bells and cows are nature! etc. ;D

There's wind in Strauss' Don Quixote.

There's also wind in Haydn's Symphony No. 93. ;)

You tell me. Don't they? Is tape music or music using electronics prohibited?

Violins are made out of wood. Wood is made out of trees. Trees are natural. Therefore all violin music is inspired by nature.

If some people on this board are to be believed, there's no such thing :D
