A fantastic opera for sure. You and Ilaria (Lisztianwagner) should get along quite nicely. 8) Do you have a favorite performance of Tristan und Isolde? Mine will forever be Karl Bohm or so it seems. Such an intense, emotionally draining performance.

Greetings, dakleik, and another fan of Tristan here - quite a piece. Enjoy yourself at GMG!

For me, the best version ever is the one from Carlos Kleiber, fantastic!! I have in DVD the 2007 Barenboim one, and I like it too.

The Kleiber is absolutely an incredible version, the best one I've listened to along with the Furtwängler and the Karajan. About Barenboim, is that one at Teatro alla Scala?

yes, with Meier. Not the best version but for me one of the best in DVD.

I'm new to GMG, but a classical music listener of long-standing.  As I grow older - and hopefully more understanding - I find I enjoy more music than I dislike and I think it's often interesting if not rewarding one way or another to make an effort to appreciate composers or styles I don't take an immediate liking to, if only to determine more precisely why!   Among my favorite favorites:  Brahms, Berlioz, Debussy, Bax, Stravinsky, Wagner, Mahler, Schubert, Sibelius, Prokofiev, Poulenc, Faure, Delius and VW (as Bax liked to call him).  I'd be tempted to add Duparc as well, but for his meager - though exciting oeuvre.  I could survive (yes, music is for me and I would bet for many of you the equivalent of food, warmth and light) on these composers alone if I had to, but am glad I don't have to!
