Title: Good day to everybody
Post by: Überstürzter Neumann on January 13, 2014, 12:09:30 AM
Actually this is take two. I registered first time last year, but due to an "interesting" year, my mind had to be elsewhere. Also, back then I made an annoying writing error in my username, which is now duly corrected.
My real name is Lennart, I am by origin Norwegian, but for the moment I live with my wife in Poland. I am going to turn 50 in August. By education I am an historian who also have dabbled a bit in philosophy, however due to some chronical illnesses I have been forced to retire on medical reasons. If nothing else, this gives me more time to pursue my interesting, of which one is classical music.
I am afraid I am only a dilettant in this field, not to be compared with most of you worthy members in knowledge and experience. I am not a professional musician, never played an instrument, have difficulties reading a score. I have reached a certain level as a listener, and I think I am quite a good learner, which is mostly why I am here in the first place. I am certainly not going to be the most prolific poster, but I am a good reader, and I hope that I can provide something of value on occasion, as most people can.
As for favourites, one can deduce from my choice of avatar that I am fond of Bruckner. A couple of years ago, when in a seere crisis, I really connected with his music. I also appreciate highly the three giants of Vienna classicism and some of their contemporaries as well as  Schubert, Schumann, Chopin and Mendelssohn and I used to be very fond of Baroque, both late and early. Perhaps it is time for me to start exploring that particular field again. In regard to more modern composers, I regret to say that I find it more difficult to connect with them, but I haven't given this up yet.
Regards, "Neumann"

Hello, Lennart, and welcome. You sound like a very dedicated listener, and the world can always use another one of those. Enjoy yourself here!

I'm a newbie too, but welcome to you and sure hope you are feeling much better.  I enjoy all periods of classical - but am convinced that the 20th century was classical music's greatest century - fear not, I'm no proselytizer! Just an advertiser.
