Title: Castelnuovo-Tedesco (1895-1968)

Just discovering this composer and especially like his Violin Concerto No 2 'Prophets', rather in the Bloch, Ben-Hur type mould, with its Old Testament inspiration. The composer was of a Jewish/Italian background and fled to the USA in the face of fascist anti-semitic policies. The concerto is moving, exciting and memorable. The CD below is terrific as it also features the most moving version I know of Ottorino Respighi's 'Concerto Gregoriano', perhaps my favourite work by Respighi and I have several recordings:
