Title: Schumann & Saint-Saens Cello Concertos
Post by: snyprrr on June 16, 2014, 07:35:05 AM
Anyone have an not-obvious recommendation here? I've always liked Harrell's disc, and I like Slava's DG recording,... I currently have Natalia Gutman on EMI with Masur (nothing wrong there- she also has a newer DG recording)...

I'm thinking the Herreweghe is the obvious choice.

Anyone have a preference between Harrell/??? and Schiff/Haitink?

Musically, there doesn't seem to be much variation between most issues- the timings are all with the 20SecondRule- and the Herreweghe was the only one that had a unique sound to it, so, I don't know what to base differences on. Rosty really digs in, but Ma is just yuckky smooth and safe.
